Monash Interview Structure

I was doing some research into the structure of monash interviews for previous years, and some seemed to have 2 scenarios (1 verbal, 1 written), and others had 1 scenario, and 1 social issue. I was wondering if anyone knew which structure is used now?
 
Not sure if its the same for local applicants but for international students, its was a verbal interview followed by a discussion based on a reading which you would be given time to read. Last, you would be given a picture, e.g periodic table and you would have to detechnicalise it.
 
ok so just some questions, 1 written scenario and detech..for international at least. that sounds pretty simple thanks (yy)

What's with the controversial questions? Only slightly subjective to interviewer opinion. :mellow:
 
nsrb, how many interviewers did you have? i seem to be hearing 3 (doctor, community member and academic staff), however the monash website says 2..

they're not asking you to get the right opinion. they're asking you to be able to think about an issue and form an opinion. I argued for the legalisation of heroin in my interview and now i'm in third year...
 
i think choosing controversial issues would be better as there IS no 'right' opinion, however with that comes a whole bunch of counter-arguments the interviewers can make against your opinion.. does anyone have tips on how to not get 'cornered' by these without dismissing the counter-argument or getting into a 'screaming match'? would it be enough to say that you still stand by your opinion, repeat/summarise the justification, and move on?
 
I did not go for the monash interview. I heard from a friend about it though. She had 2 interviewers.

The interviewers won't express counter arguments. They won't express an opinion on it. The worst they are going to do is probe your opinion further. Just think about what you think and say it. You're not going to get into a screaming match. The interviewers aren't mean, they're quite nice.

i don't think i got much from the website, it was really difficult to navigate. uhm...you should give about 3 hrs for the interview and its worth 50% (umat and atar have 25% each), and the structure seems to be questions, detech and 2 scenarios, and maybe a discussion of a topical issue. i got most of this from word of mouth + mso, but that's all i know about their interview.
 
With Monash interviews just around the bend it might be an idea to start up a new topic about this, or if any current Monash students want to comment in this thread that would be great too. Especially seeing as (from what I have heard) Monash places the most weighting on the interview compared to all the other med schools in Aus
 
hm i thought uncle had the umat and atar as thresholds, so the interview is technically worth 100%. and adelaide has 60% interview. hm and uws has 66% interview. ok sorry just a technicality lol ^_^. and ditto about monash students giving us tips on the interview and how they found it

haha you're probably right, that was just what I had heard, and it seems that apart from Jono and a couple of others, there aren't many monashers on this forum :huh: or maybe I'm just blind..

hm well, monash does seem to like being extra secretive about its interview info and i dont think we're gonna get any replies. i suppose we can just hope that its the same as the other ones. is your interview soon?

It's all very secretive, i've tried and the faculty won't show me anything. and they use a formula which they refuse to release. The 'cuttoff' things are just guesses.

Safe to say, the interview is very important.

The only unique thing would be the detech question

My interview is on the 8th, when is yours?
 
i had mine yesterday (1st). the uni was awesome, and the med students were heaps nice (and kinda cute). i don't feel like i did too well, esp because monash is known for having amazing interviewees, but they were all really nice.

to answer my original question, there seems to be 2 scenarios and no topical issues, although that said, knowing about current issues may come in handy.
