Monash Interview Structure

well, it's only been a year so it should be the same (for locals). For local students, it's 3 interviewers with questions about teamwork, leadership, why med, 2 scenarios, 1 detech. Check out the interview survey for more info. I'm not sure about international interviews though. It would be really helpful if you could give us info on the international interviews after yours is done because we're compiling info on interviews atm and we have very little on international ones. Just pm me or something about it, because I think it's only fair that this info not be released until all the interviews for this year are complete.

Hmmm, I just assumed the format was the same for domestic/international studies. Do you mean to say they are in fact different? I'll contact you as soon as I'm done with mine, provided I don't break down after stuffing it up. HAHA. :)

I would expect it to be very similar, yes.

Thanks for the reply. (yy)

I haven't attended any international interviews so I couldn't really say. I know that the UNSW phone interview (used for international students) is different from the actual interview, but that doesn't really apply for monash because well, it's a different uni and it isn't a phone interview either. I recommend reflecting on what you think qualities a good doctor has and how you can show that you have these (just things like teamwork, leadership, decision-making, dealing with stress, communication skills, motivation...etc) to prepare. and covering some scenarios or detech won't do any harm.

For locals: iirc, Monash interview from this yr on is MMI, so while certain elements should still be there (eg, detech), the interview format and structure will be very different.

for more information on the MMI @ Monash, take a look here. There's even a link to a video regarding the new MMI process and MBBS selection at Monash in general :)

Hey, I'm an international student and I've just finished my interview with Monash today. It was rather informal with two people interviewing each candidate. They asked the usual questions (Describe yourself; why do you want to be a doctor? etc.) and it ended with me having to read a passage and them asking me some questions on it. Detech was also not part of the interview.

thanks for the info :) only one scenario? How long did it last?

How'd you think you went?

Yup, there was only one scenario. The whole interview lasted ~40 mins and the scenario itself took 10 mins.

I honestly have no idea how I did. :S The results will be released in the first week of August according to my interviewer though, so here's hoping for the best. :)

I heard from my other friend that detech wasn't part of the interview too! Strange huh.

I'll confirm it again when mine comes. ^^

First week of August? Wow, that's pretty quick.

Just had my interview today and I can verify for international students (since I'm one myself) that the detech part has been dropped (after hearing from a friend and basmoth here). And there are two interviewers.

The interview structure remains relatively the same, with the "tell us about yourself", "why you wanna do med" and some other questions relating to personality and "if you were..." blah.

Last part was a scenario based question but it felt different? For mine the passage served somewhat as a background for the actual question and my questions didn't really relate directly to the information/situation given on the piece of paper but rather personal experience and other questions on the topic but not directly relating to the passage.

And I'll have to say that they are FRIENDLY and I believe this has been mentioned before already quite a few times. Just be yourself and relax, it's more of a "get to know you" kinda session.

Hey, I called them up earlier today and was informed that offers will be released over the next few days.

*fingers crossed*
