Monash Monash Medicine: Dean's Rural List

I emailed Monash again, concerned that they have missed my application and consequently I will not be included and will miss the 15th January 2020 offer round.
This was their response today ...

“As previously stated in our earlier email, we did not have your results when our invitations were sent out.

I can see that our results are now available to us, so you will be assessed and if you rank high enough, may be offered an interview for late January.

Regards”

How Can they not have my results when atars were released 17th Dec and invites were sent out 18-20th December?

hmmm I know I got my invite on the 16th of Dec. Also I checked and a majority of the invites posted on MSO were also posted on the 16th so this might be the problemo

Monash sent invites on 16th to Vic & Qld DRL applicants whose ATARs were released a few days prior.

Monash also replied to someone that, since NSW/SA ATARs were released on 17th, their invites would be sent by end of the week, Friday 20th.

That didn't happen. As a result these applicants are now delayed to the 2nd round of interviews, originally intended for interstate non-rurals only.

Hi- could someone explain exactly how the DRL application works? From what I've read, VTAC will look at your details and send you a form which you complete so that you can apply for DRL. I lived in an RA3 area for 9 years, but my current permanent residential address is in Sydney, so I'm worried that they won't consider me for DRL. Is there something else which I can do to ensure that I am considered for DRL?

Hi there

My post here might be of help regarding application Monash Medicine General Entry Discussion

The eligibility criteria here might be helpful regarding your specific circumstance Dean’s Rural List (DRL)

I’m an interstate rural applicant for Monash and I was just wondering if as an interstate rural applicant you are valued the same as a Victoria rural applicant?

To my knowledge, yes you are in the same pool (you'll interview together in December) and so will be treated equally.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew what ATAR and UCAT is required for the Deans Rural List for Monash Medicine? And when will we need to apply for it. Is there any legal documentation that will need to be provided to prove as a rural student? I have checked previous data collection, but I am still confused. I am a rural student from Western Australia.
Thanks in Advance

You have to submit a statutory declaration as a rural student. They send you an email to confirm if you are considered. You just need to be in an RA2-5 area to be considered. Check the healthforce locator to see what rating your city/town is. You don't need a specific ATAR or UCAT to be on the deans rural list.

Thanks for the clarification! So if I aim for a 95+ ATAR and 70+ UCAT, is there a good chance of getting into the medical program via the Deans Rural List at Monash?
Thanks again :)

No, aim for as high as you can for both? I think that's pretty straightforward. Again what everyone tells you is that there's no guarantee whether you'll get in or not as long as there's an interview in the way. If you get a 99.95 and a 99%ile, then yes, as a rural student your chances are quite high, but still not 100%. Moral of the story try as hard as you can, and hopefully it all pays off.

Yeah, of course, I will definitely give it all my best. Thanks :)

Hi, I think with those results you would have a great chance at getting in via the Deans Rural List program. I can see how it would be daunting to aim for a 99.95 and 99%ile, still aim for that, but if you get 95+ and 70% you will still be in a great position to get an offer as a rural applicant. For example, one of my mates from qld who is RA2 also studies at Monash with me with a 95.95 and got a 68%ile (not sure what type of offer she got though). If you want more information about the rural pathway at Monash or elsewhere or anything, feel free to reach out to me. Its scary being surrounded by 99.95 sweats for sure, so dont stress to much about getting an extremely high atar, but try your best for sure.

Also this person got offers at UNSW, Monash and Adelaide as well.

Hi Flynn! Thanks for your supportive comment. I am applying from a rural town in WA, which is classified as RA4. What would be the requirements would you say in terms of ATAR and UCAT?
Thanks in advance!

You really just need to aim for your best results. If we tell you to aim for 95.00 or 70%ile UCAT, what does that really mean, practically? You’re not going to stop part-way through UCAT and go, ‘well, that should be 70%, I’ll stop now’. Effort doesn’t work like that in these situations. Once people have sat UCAT and received their results, we will post a thread dedicated to answering ‘what are my chances’ type questions. They are largely off-topic elsewhere in the forum.
