Monash Monash Medicine: Dean's Rural List

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could pls let me know if I have a chance of receiving an offer for monash with 87th percentile and 98.35 atar (i'm RA3 btw)?
Hi studioghibli, you definitely have a great chance, but itll depend on your interview performance. I know many people from my monash cohort that got in through the rural scheme with scores lower than that. I know one person from rural victoria with a 55%ile and 95 atar so youve got a great chance. If you think youve done well on your itnerview you should be alright. Also make sure to apply to rural scholarships.

Has anyone got any scholarships yet? I'm rural and got an email like a month ago saying I've def got the like relocation scholarship for like 1.5k until they send out any other offers in the following weeks but like has anyone got any actual scholarships yet or know when those come out?

My family and my family home is in a Rural location. Because there is no good high school there, I go to a school in the city. I go back home for school holidays and any break I get. Because I don't school in my rural hometown, do you think I qualify for the Monash Deans rural list?

If there was a 5 consecutive years period you lived at the rural home (before you go to the city school) you are eligible for DRL regardless of the recent years.

If you need to include the recent years to have 5 years it's not clear. Monash says "the applicant must have resided, according to their principal home address". The principal home address makes me think you are eligible, the must have resided makes it doubtful. I think best you call Monash to ask directly (and let us know for future info).

Hey is it likely for me to get an interview offer this year at monash w/ DRL?
UCAT 2880
RA3/MM@
Thanks :-)

Rural generally needs 60ish %ile, around 2700 so 2880 should have good chances.

(This also applies to your question in the UNSW thread so I'll remove that post).

Yea i am currently at Monash, and i did enter via the deans rural list. i know VTAC applications open like 1st of August i think, and then deans rural list comes out later, just make sure that when you make your VTAC application that you upload evidence of being rural and then monash will contact you in october about applying for deans rural list.
Hi, I am currently in year12. I am planning to apply for DRL list. Can you please let me know the application process. First I apply via VTAC and what documents should I need to upload in VTAC? Will I then get an email from Monash to submit statutory declaration and what other documents should I need to be provided to Monash? Please advise the process and list of documents.

Hi, I think with those results you would have a great chance at getting in via the Deans Rural List program. I can see how it would be daunting to aim for a 99.95 and 99%ile, still aim for that, but if you get 95+ and 70% you will still be in a great position to get an offer as a rural applicant. For example, one of my mates from qld who is RA2 also studies at Monash with me with a 95.95 and got a 68%ile (not sure what type of offer she got though). If you want more information about the rural pathway at Monash or elsewhere or anything, feel free to reach out to me. Its scary being surrounded by 99.95 sweats for sure, so dont stress to much about getting an extremely high atar, but try your best for sure.

Also this person got offers at UNSW, Monash and Adelaide as well.
Hi there. I think I may be eligible for DRL Monash as I lived in RA5 for 5 yrs in a row, though I m in Melbourne now. How will Monash know that I m suitable for DRL after my initial VCAT application? It there a specific questionnaire about prior rural residency during VTAC appl process . How they know whom to send the DRL email for more docs.
Bit of clarification will be highly appreciated

I live in MM2 rural town. My daughter is in year 12 and will apply for Monash DRL. I have the utility bills for 5 consecutive years. Does she still need to get a support letter from the school principal/GP?

Hey, could I PM you regarding the documentation required for VTAC and DRL.

From this Monash webpage two ways to prove rural eligibility:
- Stat Dec + letter of support, or
- Stat Dec + documents to prove residence

Documents to Prove Residence

Do not need to be certified. May include:
  • Utility bills (electricity, gas, water, telephone, internet)
  • Bank statements (only the first page with address is required)
  • Centrelink statements
  • Lease agreements
You don't need to provide documentation for every month. A reasonable sampling of documents that demonstrate your residence over time is sufficient. For example, 1-2 documents per year (spaced throughout the year) would be appropriate for a 5-year consecutive period or a 10-year cumulative period.

Thanks A1!

Any idea on "How will Monash know that I m suitable for DRL after my initial VCAT application?"

I'm not sure since I didn't apply for DRL. But I think similarly to the other TACs like UAC, after you've completed the VTAC application the VTAC portal will show a Click option to attach/upload your Rural documents. If not then call VTAC to clarify. All the best.
