Non-standard Medicine Entry

I was wondering if it is worth applying to the non standard entry (WSU, JCU etc.) as my GPA is very high (averaging an a+ across 4 papers - specifically 95.2%). If it is worth it, what unis should I apply to and how would I do this (ie. would it be on VTAC/ QTAC/ UAC etc?)

I'd say your best shot is probably UNSW considering your GPA (though still potentially borderline UCAT). JMP's cutoff may be around 2400 this year, and WSU is basically impossible for interstates now. But you should put them all on your UAC preferences and do the direct applications for UNSW and JMP when they open.

JCU is very unlikely as an interstate non-standard metro, but if you can afford to apply to QTAC, that's an option too.

I am a nsw resident just not from the greater Sydney area.
If im being realistic, is UNSW the only choice or should I also apply to the others?
also are CSU, curtin and Notre Dame options?

I don't know if you're still considered a NSW applicant as you're doing your degree interstate, you should confirm with the unis for that. CSU is part of WSU's program so same requirements, Curtin unlikely as interstate but possible, and Notre Dame is a good option too.

Apply to as many unis as you can. Good job for getting a good UCAT, easier said than done but now just wait and see what interviews you get :)

A1 adds: Curtin non-standard is only available to Curtin students, or non-Curtin who have completed a degree.

Hi, I read the UAC course info for notre dame provisional med and it said you can apply upto 1 year of completed tertiary studies, Obviosuly this would be using atar but from what I understood you can still aplly as a uni student correct if I finished grade 12 in 2024? Also, are there other uni's that allow something like this

Provisional med for people who’ve already started uni?

Nope, given what you’ve written above, UND would be the only one offering that pathway as far as I know.
 
How do I apply for non standard med (I probs only have a chance in NSW since thats my state)?
Is it through UAC or what? But if it is, what's my USI.

A1 replies: It's through UAC the same as for school leavers. Fill in your Uni Student ID instead of USI.
Since you're studying at a NZ uni you may need to submit your uni transcript to UAC since iirc UAC doesn't have direct access to NZ uni results.

Once paid for the UAC application, no harm putting in WSU & JMP as well. You might also want to try Notre Dame Sydney/Fremantle.
 
Hi guys, I'm a non-standard uni student with my gpa looking to be smwhere around 6.8ish. I just sat my ucat this morning and got 2370 + 677. My vr score isn't great and im not gws so wsu isn't an option. Which unis would you say is worth applying for (med and dental)?

If you make the ATAR/GPA cutoff UCAT 2370 is pretty certain to get you UNSW interview. JMP is a faint possibility.
I don't know about the Dent schools, hope someone will help.

just wondering what unis are through uac and which are direct (since im within the state). Is it worth applying to UAC< or just UNSW, JMP and WSU?

A1 replies: Generally int'l students apply direct, all Aus/NZ domestic students apply via UAC/TACs.
So you submit a UAC application, put in its preference list UNSW + WSU + JMP + Notre Dame etc in the order of your preferences. Doesn't matter if your high-chance school is at say #3, since not successful for #1 #2 makes #3 effectively your top pref.
Likewise you need a QTAC application if you try for JCU.

What about like the universities that require another direct application in addition to the UAC or is it just the UAC that is required?

A1 replies: The direct applications are supplemental to the UAC app since the latter doesn't collect the extra info each school wants.
For example: UNSW asks for a brief writing about yourself (not gonna be marked, only for interviewers to know what to discuss with you). JPM wants WSU/CSU preference. JMP wants UoN/UNE preference. JCU wants schooling history etc.
*After* completing the UAC/QTAC application it should have a list of the direct apps required and the due-by dates.
 
Hey everyone is there any way I would be offered a med interview with this. I graduated in 2024 with a ATAR of 99.65 and also have EAS/SEAS, I resat the ucat this year after I started a uni degree hoping to enter through nonstandard pathway and got a 2160. I have been living in a rural address for the past year but not for 5 years. Would any unis thinks of giving me an interview.

A1 replies: Unfortunately 2160 doesn't look enough for WSU/JMP. There's some hope for UNSW with EAS.
If you have high 6s GPA non-UCAT JCU is worth a try with your 1 year rural. With JCU rurality is on a number-of-years scale, not 5-year yes/no like at the other schools.
