I nearly jumped out of my seat in nerdy excitement when I saw Gambit on the teaser!

Okay I will try to keep this short and sweet. Watchmen was AMAZING. Spectacular. Phenomenal. I had pretty high expectations, and these expectations were soundly exceeded. A fair bit more graphic violence than I was expecting, it was pretty darn brutal actually, but the themes were perfect and the dialogue was pretty much word for word. Music was perfect. SEE THIS MOVIE. Okay I'm done.

I have to say i disagree.

Dont get me wrong, i enjoyed it immensely and thought it was freaking amazing and would love to watch it a billion times again.

However, I dont think it worked as a movie by itself.

As tempted as i am to write a huge rant, ill try to be concise.

Yes, it replicated the graphic novel practically word for word, frame for frame, but i think that is the problem. As a standalone movie, it wasnt very good. Sure the effects were cool, and it had its moments, but the pacing sucked, there was no narrative flow, and it was confusing. To someone who hasnt read the graphic novel, it was just a boring, long, convoluted muddle of plots and characters.

Also, the character development came across as kinda, i dunno, 'holey'? I felt that you didnt get as much as an insight into the characters, so their motivations for their actions werent as clear as in the novel, making them come across as a bit one dimensional and pointless.

For example, (spoilers follow - click offtopic to read) [offtopic]you dont really get the feel of quite how intelligent and knowledgable Ozymandias is, and so his plan comes across as extreme rather than perfectly logical as in the graphic novel.[/offtopic]

And that is the short version of my rant.

Anyway, i enjoyed it.

Yep, I can see what you're saying. My partner correctly said after the movie, "I would have been confused if I hadn't read the book, I definitely wouldn't have got as much enjoyment out of it". Having read the book a few times and enjoyed it immensely (although somehow missed each time that Rorshach was the sign-holder - what a knob), it's hard for me to imagine what it would have been like if I hadn't. I think there was some stilted narrative / dialogue too. I thought Jon was a bit "pansier" than I thought he would be, I imagined him having this deep voice and being quite a bit more cold than he was in the movie.

I also agree about the spoilery thing you mentioned, there needed to be less emphasis on "diabolical". Hope that's innocuous enough to not be a spoiler in itself!

Good points raised, all-in-all, I have told people to try to read the graphic novel before they see the movie to gain full enjoyment.

Well I thought it was AWESOME. I had a really good time watching it. Longer than I expected but I wasn't complaining at all.

At the end of the movie I was thinking some of the same things as you kloudsurfer. It was not at all an original adaptation and it wasn't adjusted for the cinemas. The thing is though, I think it was done really really well. Sure it didn't fit the mold for how movies should be structured or paced or whatever but I really appreciated the way it stuck with the graphic novel's story. I appreciated the movie in all the same ways as I appreciated the graphic novel even if I maybe didn't appreciate the movie as a movie. More than that though, I felt the friends I was with, who hadn't read the graphic novel, got to appreciate it that way too.

The meat of the story was a parody. A very serious film that managed to never take itself too seriously. Fantastic job pulling that off, regardless of how it was paced as a movie.

And yeah, totally shocked by Dr. Manhattan's voice. Although, I kinda thought that was good too. Kept him a bit more human. And yeah kloudsurfer, Ozymandias and also The Comedian could have benefited from a more indulgence of their characters, I think but that would have meant even less movie-style pacing.

Hangover was okay. Sort of what i expected to be.
Havent seen transformers 2 yes but will after umat.

Haven't seen transformers but all I hear is that it's really bad......

I have seen Harry Potter, though. Opening night, of course. Personally, I think its probably the best movie in the series so far. I really liked it.

Oh yeah, she's stunning. Really, really pretty. Her career has incredible potential, I reckon. The fact that she's so hot works heaps better in this movie too because it makes much more sense re: the storyline.

As much as I hate to admit it, after my second viewing of transformers 2, I have to agree that it's not very good, but definitely not the "worst film of the decade" as some critics are saying. If you're a fan, you'll like it. I'll defs go and see the next one (which premiers on the 4th of July, 2012 if anyone was wondering )

Bruno was...interesting. Not something I'd watch again and I'd recommend to those who haven't watched it yet, wait for the DVD to come out. It was funny...but disturbing as well lol.

Harry Potter was pretty good. Didn't like the ending very much though. I wanted more action! The next movie's in two parts, so hopefully they stick to the book more than they have so far.

Has anyone seen the trailer for G.I. Joe? Looks alright.

when i double think about the movie transformers, i does seem to be more transforming than the storyline on the screen.


G.I Joe looks really good.

saw GI joe today... i rate it a 8/10... the action was good, and there was a good story behind it, unlike transformers 2. but there is a twist in the end which i guess means there is a second one coming out
