Otago Halls of Residence

OMG. I'm scared now!!! I haven't- nor will my parents let me!!

They think I should wait till results come out and then book....do you think there will be seats left around January?
.....I also think my parents are going to stalk me to the college....ughhhh. D<
Yes, because you definitely wont get into HSFY... loljk the 45-odd credits you need for UE, and you're set.
And I wouldn't be so worried about your parents going to the college with you, pretty sure >90% of people's parents come with them, it's by no means abnormal...

Are you getting in through preferential entry? You just needed to be endorsed in Y12 with Merit/Excellence OR be accepted into a residential college. If you did meet either of these requirements.. you only need UE.. YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO PASS NCEA LEVEL 3 to get UE! So I'm not sure why you would want to wait till your results come out.

But to answer your question, I'm sure they would have tickets left in January - they'd just be more expensive than they are now.

Edit: Woops, didn't click 'next page' / didn't notice the two posts before me which stated the same thing

There'll be seats left in January but expect them to be expensive.
If that's the only down side I'm fine then hahah I get flight discounts :D

I almost took you seriously there!! :P Ahaha, nah. I have UE from internals I just REALLLY want the E endorsement but I think that's pretty much gone :(

I am! :)
Sorry guys forgot to mention that I was on the preferential lol....I think they just want me to consider Auckland considering the scholarship and everything D:

*NOT PROCRASTINATING!!* ahaha....

Yep, 47 I believe.

Additionally, for 2011 med, carrington got something like 40-45 (although Arana got the most - the figure was in the region of 45-50).

I heard Carrington got ~50 residents into 2010 med, is this true?
Probably not too far off. *BUT* don't read too much into that number. As has been said around here many a time, cause and effect gets mixed up a lot with this: It's because 'those' people are more likely to apply for colleges like Carrington, so naturally that ends up making it look like Carrington feeds its students some kind of IQ-enhancing potion.

I heard St. Margaret's gets around 25-30 residents into med every year, a ~1/3 proportion isn't that bad for ~70 HSFYs they let in every year. How many HSFYs do Carrington take in?

This has to be the dullest game of 'my boat is bigger than yours' in recent memory. But I guess I can join in the fun: Otago Boys got 10 into Med '11. I learnt this from the ever ~wise~ ODT (long live!). 10 might not seem like much, but when you consider my high school, roll of 2000+, only had a grand total of 1 (no zero omitted), it's a mighty effort.

*Sadly, I wasn't paid to say the above, which begs the question why I mentioned it at all :\

I think its more of a rebuttal? - as this is a thread on otago halls of residence. But you really think its that dull?

Have you been out of NEV and seen the 8 different billboards that supposedly draw people to vote for a so called 'democratic government'. For me thats probably the shittest 'im better game' being played and thats by the people who are gonna run this country. All just bicker and backer

Compared to that - its a good bit of fun.

Dunno why you care, but the hall that gets the highest proportion of their HSFYers in is consistently Knox.

Wait what? There's no magic potion that the fancy colleges give you!? I guess this means I actually have to apply myself. How outrageous.

I know, it's terrible. Something should be done about it, lest those from lesser colleges make it in and ruin medicine's good name

But greenglacier! Didn't you know that the hall of residence you go to has a huge influence on your HSFY marks? I've even heard it helps your UMAT score! ( :p )

I just know that I went to the best hall, and despite taddy's love for St. Margaret's, he still went to the lesser hall. Nothing can beat mighty Carrington.

[offtopic]I joke, I joke[/offtopic]

Sorry for trolling but St. Margs needs more love on this forum . I agree that it's the person and not the hall that matters... so ~200 HSFYs get into Carrington per year? XD

St. Margs needs more love on this forum
With the amount of "OMG I didn't get into St Margs I'm so screwed I won't get into med now" floating around, either in the open or just underneath the surface, you'd think it'd be the other colleges that need more love on this forum... I'd like to think that we operate under the theme of "yes, St Marg/Carrington is great, BUT the others are great as well", rather than pure SMC/Carrington bashing...

I do not in the slightest believe that going to Carrington improved my chances of getting into med. However, I did rather like knowing almost a fifth of my med class already from first year.

But yes, there's nothing that special about the popular halls.

Just out of curiousity, going back to Knox, does anyone know what proportion does usually get in to med and how many HSFYs there are?
