Otago Halls of Residence

Anyone know what 'Status: PRUG' means in regard to my application for accommodation I submitted last night?
Programme Registration Under... Graduate? Maybe they're just waiting on confirmation from the university that you've applied for a first year course next year?

No idea. It's not even an acronym google could come up with a reasonable explanation for. Maybe email them just to check that it's all gone through ok? Unless everyone else on here has the same application status, which I'd imagine is likely.

Thanks for the reply :) it changed a few more times to different acronyms over the past week, but now says "Completed App" so it's all good. I guess it's just a routine part of processing applications or something.

Hi there,

I'm planning on putting in my application for halls for 2019 very soon, but im stressing out about the whole thing!
I really want to put Carrington as my first pick but im quite iffy about doing it, my year 12 academic grades were alright/nothing amazing though, but i have loads of co-curriculars and such, like 2nd XV rugby, surf life saving, and prefect etc. What do you think my chances of getting in are??
Also, if anyone knows, what are the general number of applications : places ratio for Carrington. I just want to be able to see how my chances are looking.

Thanks all!

You'll be fine, the warden looks for people she finds interesting and co curriculars help a lot with that. Not sure about the application to places ratio, I'm not sure if anyone does to be honest but it sounds like you'd be fine.

Much appreciated, I hope it all works out in the end :))

Hi, I always through St Margaret's was a first choice only hall but was recently told by a memeber of university staff that it is not, is it worth putting it as a second choice behind Carrington? if not what halls should i put if i want to get into med and have a quiet environment? Cheers :)

Margs is definitely still a first choice only hall.

Hi there, just wanting to ask any current/recent Margs residents what the place and atmosphere is like? What are the people like and would you recommend going there? I don't know much about it except that it's 1st choice, quiet, and rather academic.

Quiet, studious, but with a very good support system of mentors in the form of second and third year students who come back to the college and help guide you through the academic side while the RAs (College Leaders) help you with the emotional side. I would defs recommend it.

hey guys! I'm a year 13 from Auckland and I'm applying for carrington! I have 59 e credits from level 2 and I do heaps of leadership and arts (singing)
Do I stand a chance??

Hi, i was wondering if it is a good idea to put non-alcohol as my preference for Carrington. My reason for this is i'm looking for a quiet environment. Is it worth putting down non-alcohol for Carrington? Cheers :)

Hey does anyone know whether being an Australian school leaver will affect my chances of being selected? I'm a NZ citizen if that changes anything.
Sorry if that question has already been asked

Hi cashew, Carrington itself is a pretty quiet environment. Non-alcohol floors can sometimes be isolated from their hall, and standard floors are surprisingly quiet most of the time anyway :)

So the Otago Liaison recently visited our school and told us that TRH is a first choice hall and will fill up on the first round of applications. I have submitted my application and currently have TRH as my second choice, is it worth asking the accommodation office to change my preferences? Anyone currently a TRH resident and got there as a second or third choice?

I was wondering if anyone knows if we are we allowed to go over 300 words in our hall application even though the page says "Please limit this to 300 words". Cheers :)
