Looks like noone has got their course approval form yet :( If you are heading down on the 22nd or 23rd, it's highly likely your flight will be made up nearly totally of HSFY students so it's very cool :D

It might also be a bit intimidating? A whole plane packed full of med-hopefuls can really give you a reality check. Make yourself wonder about what you threw yourself into.. ok I'm freaking myself out now.. Glad I'm on the 19th

I felt really motivated seeing all these other students, cause I knew I that on that flight out of all the students there would only be maybe 10 or so that get into med, and that if I worked hard then I would be one of those :D Turn your the awareness of competition into a motivator, rather than letting it be something that intimidates you :)

Oh well, I am gonna leave the freaking out bit till later. I have got to face the competition anyway. So maybe there really isn't a need to freak out I guess...;)

one of my friends is doing the jumpstart physics, here's an extract from an email :

We have worked extremely hard to keep the costs down and for a large book, nearly 500 pages, a price of $38.00 is reasonable. As the previous text for this paper (Urone) was $125.00 this is a significant drop. This book, Biological Physics for PHSI 191 will be available from the week of 2 February from the University Print Shop in the Main Library building.

im so glad this text book is REALLY cheap!
hope this helps:D

phew that's alright then, i did actually have the other physics book...thanks that helps alot!!^_^

oh and docca. im heading down on the 19th as well haha

Im not sure about the economics paper actually, didn't someone say thier making it harder this year  haha it's quite funny

[offtopic]I hope you're not gonna put it up word for word, because that'd look pretty emberassing on my part haha. What is it with me and typos on MSO? :([/offtopic]
[offtopic]It's the Asian in you XD[/offtopic]

On a different note, I got my course approval form today yay!

I'm trying to sort my course this year and because I'm doing y13 physics via correspondence my dean said I could do physics at polytech instead of corrospondence. Will this affect my admission in HSFY? I know they mention no previous varsity study or science type courses but will doing this course f things up for me?

Personally I wouldn't risk it, but of course you could call them up and ask. It makes it a whole lot easier if you can just skip the whole "previous tertiary record" section when you're applying.

I was looking around OUMSA's website at https://oumsa.otago.ac.nz/ and I noticed they have the 2009 med timetable!

https://facmed.otago.ac.nz/timetable/B&WTimetable/

Thank god there's no 8am starts O_O Had enough of waking up so friggin early to get to an 8 am lecture on time from aquinas (damn you selwynn and st margs!!!!) [Edit] Looks like I'll be able to make it back for normal dinner on most days yay! :)

Seems like they split the class into 4 streams A1 A2 B1 B2, the A streams have a lab together and same with the B streams, individual streams have tutorials on their own, and the whole class comes together for lectures. "Independent/Group work" I'm guessing is time off...but maybe we have to be in a certain building or something. Hopefully it means complete time off to go home etc.

The Otago med wiki https://medstudent.wiki.otago.ac.nz/Main_Page has good stuff too :D *Busy exploring sites*

https://aumsa.wikidot.com/ is Auckland's equivalent.

:( I should've noticed it the first time I looked on OUMSA's website when we got the letter for med. We've got a toooon of free time then...awesome!!! I have my fingers crossed for course approval form arriving tomorrow lol.

Us med people don't have to get someone else to sign the form for us. We just sign it then hand it back in, according to the course approval booklet.

You'll prob get it tomorrow :D It's really weird though, your form is like sellotaped inside the envelope O_o.

Lol in my current state I'd probably freak out about how to remove it without damaging the form lol. Who do we hand in the form to? Is it through that path that runs through the Castle lectures like last year?

Btw you can download the timetable files as long as you preserve the folder structure that's on the website so you can view it offline. I wodner if they'll put our timetable up on PIMS once we've done course approval.
