BIOC is pretty much just memorising things at the moment with very little depth in the concepts learned. There's pretty much a 1 line explanation at most for many things.

is anyone else concerned about bioc192?

I just don't know where to start/what they want us to know other than the 20 aminos.

It seems they've bombarded us with information without explaining it.

Yeah I don't think you need too much about it right now... :) as they said, they're just teaching us the "language" of Biochemistry atm. In a couple of weeks though concepts will probably be elaborated on and the information will become more indepth....

do the relevant questions in the study worksheet. although they are said to go into more detail than you need to know, still gives you a little bit of an idea.

Probably a lot like the study worksheets for CELS, since the two papers are run by essentially the same people :p
Edit (to avoid double-post): Did everyone else get the rather amusing hacked email re:HUBS192?

does anyone know when the interviews are held for the pro programmes?

My gf and I are planning a trip in mid Nov but I don't want to book it and find I have to reschedule because of interviews..

Normally in the 2nd to last week of the semester for dent, and last week of semester for physio. I've never heard of the interviews being held after exams.

so you'd be talking around the 10-18th ish of oct of this year (considering exam dates un til the 12th of Nov.)

Oh if any of you are interested, HEAL192 is on the 28th and BIOC is on the 24th for exams.

The exam timetable isn't out yet, so you know this how?
[OFFTOPIC]And yes, I'm still interested to know how you worked out who I am :p[/OFFTOPIC]
ETA: GG, if the dent interview is two weeks before the end of semester, they must get everyone ranked from UMAT helluva fast o.O (considering UMAT results come out around a week or so earlier, organising interviews in a week is record speed for an Otago uni department  )

HEAL course book says exam is on 28 October. Also fits in with my predictions based on past exam times. Presumably the BIOC lab book says the BIOC exam is on the 24th? (which is interesting as past trends would've placed BIOC at 26th, I think)

Wow. 4 Days between those 2 exams? Thats epic.
Yeah, especially considering in the past it's been one day, if my memory serves.

Something like 36 lectures, over 3 days? Basically don't have to study until exam period :P This semester gets better and better.

They've pulled it off several times in the past. Considering they can start the ranking in mid-september (when they have UMAT results, which they generally get before students do, and lots of people have submitted dent applications) it's impressive, but one can definitely see how they manage it. It always does catch a few people off guard though, getting an interview offer just a couple of days after applications close.

Oh so they get the UMAT results back before us, this makes sense. Still pretty good for a uni department, given how slow they normally are lol.

*self-facepalm* I should really read the book before talking...
ETA: In that case, anyone know when HUBS is? (I'm too lazy to check)

Haha yeah :D especially considering that I've crammed that many lectures in in about... one night?? NOT an experience I would like to be repeating...
This semester is totally going to just fly past though. It's crazy. And I still need a first aid certificate :S.... Going to get onto that....

Had my first BIOC lab today. It was more maths than I had done in a long time :P

I don't think they've released the exam dates for HUBS yet... To be determined at a later date....

It would be so epic if we finished exams before the end of October! What is that? Like a FOUR month holiday :D!! Is EPI our last exam?

HEAL should be the last of the health sci exams (it's a great one to end on!), and it should be Oct 28 (though note that this has NOT been officially confirmed yet), so provided your 8th paper exam is not after epi (or you aren't doing an 8th paper) then yes, you'll probably be finished by the end of october.

(As for me, med 3 exams end on the 4th of november, and med 4 starts on january 30, so my holiday will be a measly 3 months :p).

[offtopic]At least you're not heading for your last ever big summer holidays like the med 4s are![/offtopic]
