how quickly does stuff come up on blackboard?
CELS, CHEM, BIOC (most of them) = the night before
HUBS (both) = 6pm the day of the lecture
HEAL = a day or two (or up to five) after the lecture
PHSI = irrelevant as you can buy all the slides as a course book.

Do we actually have to finish the essay in the English test or will it be accepted if we write something decent and leave it half finished?

Also, how many paragraphs do you reckon we should write?

They only expect like 200 words so I reckon they just want to see that you can to write fluently?

(but if they expect for us to finish a whole essay in 200 words.... I'm screwed)

1, This is a test of your ability to use English, not a test of your ability to write a whole essay.

2, You guys vastly overestimate how hard it is to pass :P

Are the exit tests (for labs) done online or on paper?
CHEM, HEAL = on paper
CELS, BIOC = later on Blackboard
HUBS = on the lab computers
PHSI = no real test, supervisor signs you off

[OFFTOPIC] finished the english diagnostic! :D What can I say... it was not worth the freaking out that happened roughly 2 hours before it -.-. Lesson learnt: trust the mods. always. [/OFFTOPIC]

um..... 2 and a half pages, but it wasn't really an essay it was more like few sentences x.x

though it was very un-nerving when the person next to me make a really loud attempt to close her exam-paper 5 minutes into the writing time.

I wouldn't worry, if you've written two and a half pages of something that looks like English, you'll pass no problem. Heck, I think my essay was only just over a page.
[offtopic] If you think that's annoying, try having someone behind you in a HUBS final who continuously shakes their leg for the full three hours, tapping the ground twice a second with their foot :p [/offtopic]

Ouch >.< though that is probably me during an exam :P

Anyone heading to the 9 am preliminary lecture tomorrow (another early start x.x)?

Oh come on, 9am start is like a typical day of med school. A typical day of health sci starts at 8am!

I'm finishing off my Acct degree at Otago with a view to maybe doing OLY1 at Auckland sometime in the future. Outside of accounting I get to do 5 papers of choice. I don't have a well based science background but I'm choosing to do HUBS 191/192 this year along with TOUR101 and MAOR102, and first semester next year CHEM191. Are there any other HSFY papers that people would think necessary/recommend in order to be able to build a good base with a view of perhaps going into Auckland in the future? Cheers guys

NB My workload/timetable is already gonna be rather hectic(esp this year) so I chose hubs191/92 and chem191 as the 3 most important papers, was this right? I haven't done any HSFY papers before..

I only have 3 semesters left and my timetable this year is:
S1- 2 300 level Acct(presuming a decent workload) hubs191 and tour101
S2- 2 300 level Acct hubs 192 and maor102

Next year:
S1- 2 300 level Acct and Chem191

Thanks for the suggestions johnathan, HEAL does seem rather important but FML my timetable/workload is already going to be so busy even with 1 'bum' paper a semester this year lol

1) Is there any reason you don't apply post-grad to Auckland/Otago (nb: Can't have any 100-levels in your last year if you're applying to Otago, not sure about Auckland).
2) I'd imagine having taken HEAL before could give you quite an advantage over people in OLY's equivalent (Can't remember what it's called, lol), since epidemiology and public health seem to cause a lot of people grief, and practically no high school leavers will have even heard of it, so any prior knowledge in those areas would probably be advantageous.

Yeah, my commerce grades have been shocking over the last couple years, I wouldn't really stand a living hope in hell of getting into med the post-grad route..Therefore I just wanna get my degree here first then try OLY1 at Aucks if I enjoy/do well in some of the HSFY papers

Hmmm, thanks for the advice about HEAL..I'll definately give it some thought

P.s Froot congrats for making it into med..I've naturally stalked your blogs etc and it's truly inspirational to see what you've been through and achieved..
