I like to do worksheets/old exams/term tests. Good test of knowledge, finds your weaknesses so you can study up on that. No idea if it's a good strategy.. I hope so xD

Now your becoming more Asian! (dude, that's like the typical asian way of studying)

I love it! It helps reinforce past stuff (eg when a question on an old topic comes up). + it's way more fun than just reading slides/notes over and over again.

And YES, more asian! 100% here I come, shame I'll have to get 0% S2..

I actually am not doing hsfy yet haha. I just found my cousins old lecture slides and then decided to turn them into something I can use for next year. And while i was looking at hubs I was like. "Its either me or these slides aint that detailed". Either that or HUBS is just easy, which from posts I hear aint the case!

HUBS is *really* info dense. The slides don't even come close to how much info they give you. If you see one bullet point then assume a few minutes of info is given verbally.

Thats what I thought :/ LOL I can always wish it is as easy as it seems bahaha. I mean I have the books but I fear to open them just because they are so thick! But I guess its good I have a rough guide as to what to study. But I do have this fear about going way too deep o.o

Well if you're having a gap year then by all means take a look at the books/slides. Ask your cousin to get you the lecture videos/podcasts and you can come in as the #1 prepared HSFY student next year xD

Lol hope so ae haha. Especially for bloody chem and physics o.o those are the two subjects I really dread. Loving HUBS and CELS based on what I see on slides haha. But then my opinion might actually change once I see the full length podcasts o.o

HSFY is in no way about learning. It's about filling your brain with as much as you can. The stuff on the slides is easy- but there is A LOT of content to remember. It's very much a case of quantity over quality.

I fundamentally disagree.

HUBS/CELS are the most interesting (IMO). Physics isn't as hard as it would seem- I've hardly done any physics, but if you understand how to plug numbers into the relevant formula it's pretty simple...

..And sadly, Chem is Chem, no doubt the hardest paper of Semester 1.

Care to elaborate League? , Personally, I agree with lulwut. For CELS and HUBS, it is pretty much rote memorisation until the exams. In regards to physics and chemistry, its slightly less but still knowing the patterns and the way to solve it.

Useless when it comes to physics as I say :)) Just imagine this, in level 3 I always get the explain but rarely the maths parts haha unless its super simple maths. PLEASE TELL ME there are explainy type MCQ in the exam :)?

Chem I think I dont find it that hard when theres more theory than maths. But then im speaking from an ignorant background haha, pretty sure CHEM191 will shock me :) unless i prepare for it if i can.

Disagree all you like, that's just HSFY. Sure, good study habits are great, but I'd rather be in med (having just rote-crammed in HSFY, which works quite well), and have to reteach myself 'good' study methods, than miss out on med, and have the world's best study habits...

Even though I am not doing HSFY, I think to a point its a bit of both because you pick up the terms as you learn them. But at one stage or another you eventually just have to memorise certain facts and there is no 2 ways around it.

Heh, there are a few concept MCQs for physics. Most are calculations though (However, you are allowed to bring in a double sided A4 piece of paper with whatever you like on it- so just write required formula and applications on that :P). If you've done level 3 physics then PHSI191 should be fairly simple- apparently lots of the content covered is very similar to NCEA level.

Again, it depends on the lecturer. Your current HUBS lecturer is likely to be of the "put picture, talk for minutes" type, but there are ones who will absolutely read off the slides, which are crammed with text.

Hari, it's not necessarily "not as easy as you thought" - it can be as easy as it seems. The difficulty of HSFY is in the volume of contents, not how impossibly difficult each bit of content is.

I still want to be on my guard cause I dont want either chem or phsi to be those subjects that dip below the B mark haha. Its the fact that I am not physically in the lectures that probably is killing me atm haha.

I think the only thing that makes Cells and Hubs easy is the fact that its interesting. That is the only thing that keeps me reading on and on and on :)

Hi there, could we use full grammar and punctuation on MSO? Thanks.

Lol, you want to get 95%+ in PHSI and 85-90% in CHEM (from memory of what meds on this forum have said) if you're looking at med anyways.
