question: they don't really expect us to know all that specific detail for the facial bones/features of the humerus blah blah right? like the zygomatic (or whatever its called) bone in the facial bones, and the maxillary* (excuse my spelling people) or all that tubercules stuff, etc etc right?
Correct re facial bones.

thanks cath :)

hey guys, do you guys remember in the bone growth lecture, the lec said that all bones begin as cartilage etc, and then they start growing from the inside out? -- she said this was 'intramembranous ossification', but I'm looking at the textbook now and it says that it's actually called 'endochronal ossification' anyone else notice this contradiction?

Always trust the lecturer over the textbook- they make the questions.

From what I gather:
Endochondral ossification refers to bone formation from cartilage (i.e. hard skeleton formation from a cartilage model) e.g. how long bones develop in a fetus
Intramembranous ossification refers to bone formation within a fibrous membrane e.g. a few flat bones in the skull

You might be getting these terms confused with the terms refering to bone growth in general i.e.
Appositional growth - growth outwards (adding to width)
Interstitial growth - growth from interior expantion (adding to length)

First GLM done :) 10/10, simple enough. Goodluck everyone else!

[OFFTOPIC]I don't even remember the lecturer saying anything about endochondrial or intramembranous...she only said ossification in my lecture stream :S[/OFFTOPIC]

If there are any HSFY St. Marg students who read this board, I'm interested in trading the resources they give you (mock exams etc) for a bunch of old exams I have. PM me

hmm yea, i looked at the uploaded podcast, and tried to find it, but there is no mention of it, I think I'm just going to ignore it :)

I think it was just something to do with babies, I have written down 'cranial vault - sheets of membrane. bone in middle then spreads outward'
She said it pretty off-handedly, I doubt it'll come up hmm

[OFFTOPIC] I just looked at the length of the Auckland thread (no offence guys), its so short!???? we really very inquisitive... although i would probably call it a bit more talkative + procrastination sense-ful in my case (if that makes sense) [/OFFTOPIC]

Inquisitive? More like wasting time, you should be busy studying like your Auckland compadre.

Just on the topic of HUBS readings, do they ask things that are completely new and not covered in the lectures (e.g I read about different levels of homeostasis in the body (which are intracellular, intrinsic and extrinsic)) or are they small details which builds on what the lecturer has talked about/covered in the lecture slide?
