hahaha same, I thought he was talking to me and I was like 'it wasn't that stupid a question was it??'
Lol, same. Anyway, to answer your question, you literally get as many attempts as you need at the BETs. And, if you're anything like me, that'll be somewhere in the region of 15-20 attempts :p

Thanks :D

I'm actually finding hubs kinda boring too atm, I think it's more to do with the lecturer. The only time I've been genuinely interested in what she was saying was when she started waving her arms around and talking about daleks.

How many times can you do the cels BETs? At the top of the bb page, it says you can do it as many times as you like but then near the bottom, under the heading BET 1 it says 'some tests on bb allow only limited attempts'.
Some tests, like HUBS and CELS GLMs, only allow limited attempts. That's from Blackboard, not from CELS. A bit like when they said in introductory lectures that "some of you will not get into med" - it doesn't necessarily mean you.

Unless you see a bold "You are allowed 3 attempts at this test", it's generally unlimited.

PS: I thought Phil Bishop would've said in the intro lecture "you can go sit it, get 9/10, then go out, have a couple of drinks, come back, sit it again, and get 2/10, but your highest one will count" like he did last year.

Are you sure you should be doing HSFY??
You don't have to enjoy HUBS to do HSFY... You don't even have to enjoy anatomy (the current topic of HUBS) to do HSFY. Heck, you don't even have to enjoy anatomy much to be a doctor (but you still have to know some.)

On the other hand if you think anatomy is the most interesting thing in the world, one might recommend BSc(Hons) in anatomy followed by postgrad research.

One of the most common misconceptions amongst HSFY students is that HUBS = medicine. This is absolutely incorrect (for a lot of reasons)! Personally I don't think there's a particularly strong relationship between how much you enjoy HUBS and how much you'll enjoy clinical medicine.

Obviously I haven't gotten into the body systems part of med II yet that would require any anatomy (ie: we're doing behavioural med), but just to give you an idea of just how true this ^ is, in the first six weeks of med II contains a grand total of ZERO anatomy lectures, and ONE physiology lecture (ok, and one dissection lab). So if HUBS isn't your favourite subject right now, I wouldn't be too worried about 'Zomg I'll hate medicine because I hate HUBS', lol.

if a guest lecturer doesn't turn up, will the lecture be rescheduled or do we have to learn the material ourselves?

Best to email the chem department and ask what they're gonna do (especially whether there'll be questions in the terms test), because there's no hard-and-fast rules on what they will/should do.

Blackboard Announcements say that the chemistry lecture was cancelled, and that normal lectures will resume Tuesday. So I'd assume that it can't be tested on, and am sure we will be told Tuesday if it is examinable.

DON'T PANIC!!! I'm pretty sure that if a lecture was not given, then it can't be examinable... Who was the lecturer anyway? Guest? Was it the Biochemistry ATP one?

[OFFTOPIC]By the way, I was netpat2, but then I saw that you can only get true power through Dark Magic. There is no good or evil... there is only POWER!!![/OFFTOPIC]

It was that one! Did we miss out on anything good?

Nothing you won't get again (if not in the 'biological molecules' part of CHEM191, then certainly in BIOC192). Actually, I'm not sure why they do that ATP lecture so early on in the CHEM course, nobody understands a word of it that early on anyway.

Lols you guys are lucky! One less cruddy Craig Marshall lecture to deal with.
Btw Froot, am I allowed to mention his name in this post? If not, I'll edit it out.

[offtopic] I don't think there's any specific rule saying you can't use lecturer's names, but it might be worth remembering, especially if you're going to paint someone in a negative light, that a *lot* of people lurk MSO. It's up to you, though. [/offtopic]

In that case... THE DARK LORD CAN DO WHATEVER THE **** HE WANTS!!!!![/OFFTOPIC]

staying awake in the lecture.......... "We're pressed for time"....hm....... ok"...... *push button for next slide*...... *wait 5 seconds* "ok, i think we'll take a minute break."

how the hell can you not fall asleep with the lecturer spending more time taking a pause that actually teaching course material?

I find HUBS horrible...

That's why I skip them. Well, just her. She is actually so painful, I walked up and left during her second one and I'm not coming back, seriously. It's all on Blackboard anyways. I hope the other lecturers aren't all as boring as she is.

You're missing out on a lot of detail that isn't on the slides - which they will test on the terms test.
