No chem result on blackboard whatsoever.. hmm..
Hope you managed to find it eventually, it's under Course Information on the CHEM page, rather than under My Grades (as lulwut pointed out)

Nervous to get my result... I'm marked as absent atm and hate waiting!

Yup, found it eventually (cheers [MENTION=14020]lulwut[/MENTION] ;) )

Compiled all my results so far.. sitting on 80.2% total paper average.. need to bring that up by roughly (or at least, to be safe with UMAT) 10.3%. Chem needs to come up by at least 11% to even pass it D:

Does anyone (maybe ex-Healthscis) know if it's possible to see your answer sheet again? I really want to confirm my chem mark, and have gone to the Chem dept. and they told me that I should email Dr McMorran directly... I've done that, and don't know what to do with myself now...

hey baba :), i'm no ex-health sci (am current in fact), lol, but i just thought i'd throw out some advice... tbh, there's really nothing else you can do... you have done everything you can, you've emailed the big boss etc, you've had a panic, now its time to calm down. I know. much easier said than done - but its really in your best interests to try - its hard to find things to do when stuck in the middle of a problem, but try - you probably don't want to be worrying/thinking about chem (because it will affect your mentality for other exams, your current study etc) - do something you enjoy, or study something else? I realise that this is *VERY* hard, to not think about something that matters quite a bit, but it is the weekend (when the chem department is probably not even thinking about chem stuff) - of course, you should do everything you can to make sure that you haven't lost any marks that you weren't supposed to lose, but try and recognise the fact that you have done everything in your power to try and get to the end of this problem - like you said, there is nothing else you can do, but hope for the best. Check your email often, have the problem at the back of your mind, but don't let it consume your life, study and fun. Don't fret too much if Mr McMorran doesn't get back to you soon - from what I can see, he probably has his hands full (he has to check, mark and upload the scores of a whole room's test papers) BE POSITIVE, i'm sure you're problem will work out, and I hope that it sorts itself out! Good luck :)

Hey Guys need a bit of advice,

Now I am going down to Otago for the umat/visiting the uni and hostels. At this point I have Carrington, St Margs, and hayward on my list. Would you recommend i look at any other hostels? At this point I am really inclined to apply for hostels in that order :) but who knows what will happen when I go down.

Second, how much is a good amount of money to bring for spending money? Food/transport maybe some fun stuff?

I would not advise applying in that order. The idea of 3 preferences is that if you don't get accepted by your first preference, you have second and third to fall back on. You've picked three of the popular colleges (the ones I can remember off the top of my head are St Marg, Arana, Carrington, Knox, and Hayward), which tend to fill up on first preference applicants more often than not, meaning if you list one of them as your second preference, you've essentially wasted your second preference slot because it's not a backup.

My recommendation: check out the three of the above, and at the very least decide between Carrington and St Margs for your first preference. Then, check out some of the others (and don't be too quick to dismiss Aquinas and Salmond just because they need a walk to get to) and decide on some backups.

EDIT: Also, they pride themselves on being residential colleges, meaning they're more than hostels and may or may not find it annoying to be called hostels. It's a bit like how PASS is not impressed with colleges calling PASS Facilitators "tutors".

At this point i just picked those 3 because I have nothing else in mind. To make matters worse someone also suggested that I look at Knox and I really like that hostel too x.x I generally dont care about the walk, or the food. The only 2 things I want in a hostel is a good balance between social and academic, plus good academic support if i ever need it. But then again all hostels have generally good academic support so I am not fussed.

Then just visit a few (or maybe all) of the "non-popular" colleges and choose the ones that appeals to you most, I guess?

And Selwyn. (I think Hayward has only recently started filling up on 1st pref it use to be a pretty good 2nd option)

Hayward may still be worth keeping on your list because it's not as popular as the really popular colleges (Arana, Carrington, Knox, Selwyn, St Margs). You'll still need to put one of the "backup" colleges on your list somewhere (Cumberland, Unicol, Aquinas, Salmond), but I'm not sure how much value there'd be in visiting them - they're all pretty similar (or, at least, you won't learn much to distinguish them by visiting).

[offtopic]Aquinas has an impressive view of the city, if that counts :P[/offtopic]

Unicol is good just by virtue of it being really close, however it's the "party" hostel, so if you want to get any study done in a decent environment then maybe pick another as your backup.

Check blackboard, apparently the mess up with the students at T-Col caused some students to be given incorrect marks..Just hope that that marks given to you weren't yours.

from blackboard "There has been a technical error is the preparation of the list of terms test marks which was posted yesterday, which caused some students to be marked as absent when they were not, and which also caused some students to be given grades which were not theirs. "

Does anyone know if there are any model answers available for the CELS191 previous exams? I've looked around but can't find anything..

[OFFTOPIC]Thank you Ben, I am dumb [/OFFTOPIC]

Unicol is a great back-up choice, really close and I wouldn't worry too much about the partying etc... If you apply for an alcohol free floor/flat you will almost 100% be granted one. I'm on the highest floor (alcohol free) in the Unicol tower and the view is brilliant, along with the fact that it is pretty much quiet up here :)

Touche, I forgot about those floors.

UniCol is given a pretty unfairly bad rap, particularly by those who have never even been there... I maintain that it is entirely possible to study at UniCol (I barely left my room for the two weeks around exams), just maybe not in your common room on a Thursday or Saturday night in the middle of semester (which certainly isn't just a UniCol thing, I've heard some pretty wild stories about nights in other colleges, including the ever-popular Arana and Carrington).

Exactly. Even the alcohol-friendly floors generally aren't that bad (I was on one), and if it does get too noisy, UniCol has a library (and is like less than 2 minutes walk from both central and science libraries).
Also, the UniCol 'flats' is where most health-scis at UniCol get put, so they tend to be pretty quiet anyway, as any place full of health-scis is :p

ETA: Oh, and being like 2 minutes walk max. from your 8am lectures is a huge, huge bonus. UniCol is also good for if you ever need to escape other health-scis for sanity's sake. Admittedly the food isn't quite as good as the likes of Carrington, but it's not deal-breakingly bad.
I liked UniCol.

/defence of UniCol.
