Is there anyone here from Selwyn? I'm wondering which residential college to have as my first choice and am favouring Selwyn at the moment, but I have heard that living there is not always a particularly happy experience. My main criteria in a college is that it is close to lectures and reasonably quiet (warm in winter would be a plus as well!). Is hazing and bullying much of a problem at Selwyn? Just wondering why it doesn't have such a great reputation.
Carrington is the place that you want to be at, and it is one of the hardest to get into, harder to get into than St Margarets or Arana. But it's an amazing environment to study in, and the people here are like top in the nation- we honestly have so many outstanding scholars in Carrington. Also, we got the most people through to med last year than any other colleges. And the food is great. So yeah, Carrington's the place to be at.
Lol, if this doesn't sum up Carrington's rather high opinion of itself, then I don't know what would. Sorry, but I can't help but read that in an upper-class English accent.Carrington is the place that you want to be at, and it is one of the hardest to get into, harder to get into than St Margarets or Arana. Also, Carrington doesn't get the highest number of people into med. In 2010 at least, that was Arana.
Carrington has consistently got one of the top number of people through to medicine. And I wasn't trying to sound all upper class English accent about it (I'm asian,Lol, if this doesn't sum up Carrington's rather high opinion of itself, then I don't know what would. Oh, and just for funsies: You could look at the high number of 'very smart' people at Carrington as a bad thing, to be honest. At least at supposed 'lower tier' of colleges, you get a place away from the stress of HSFY.
), just giving my personal opinion.Carrington has consistently got one of the top number of people through to medicine. And I wasn't trying to sound all upper class English accent about it (I'm asian,), just giving my personal opinion.
I also think it's good that there are so many smart people here, not saying that other colleges don't, because at least for me, it motivates me to study even more and we have our study groups going, etc. For example, if I have a question, then I can just ask my friends, or we can both try to come up with the answer. Believe it or not, Carrington actually focuses a lot on balance- mixing play with study, much more so, than I would imagine other halls would be. I would say one of the best things about Carrington is that you can study, but there will always be heaps of people that you can hang out with, if you want to have a little bit of fun. It is definitely not what everyone thinks, where we study 24/7.
I'm afraid that if you think those things are unique to Carrington, you're sorely, sorely mistaken.Carrington has consistently got one of the top number of people through to medicine. And I wasn't trying to sound all upper class English accent about it (I'm asian,), just giving my personal opinion.

We're not being sensitive, we're just trying to calm down the wild claims you're making, like 'Carrington is the place to be', and 'Carrington gets more people into med than any other hall'.I'm sure that's true. But I've only been here, and I really like it here, so just giving my humble opinionno need to get so sensitive about it....
