Otago Rural Origins entry?

Hey,

I was just wondering whether anyone knows how difficult it is to be accepted into medicine from HSFY under the rural origins category?

Im in HSFY at the mo and am aiming for a A+ average, but i just realised the other day that i can apply for rural origins entry (lived in the country while I was at primary)...

How many spots are there? Do heaps of people apply that way? and do they go by the top grades with that aswell?

thanks for your help!

I have to really watch what I say on the blackboard discussion boards, as I have gotten used to anonymous posting on forums like this one. Like I can't say things like the scottish guy for hubs is really really really boring. =(

I booked room 103 (its upstairs) for 2pm :)

Sweet
We at the moment the list is..
Pete7, docca.emb,kooch kooch, majonna, skyglow1, im_a_sheep, random, dunnersboy87, arutha?... Is that all?
Plus a mate of mine who could be usefull for input

Oh snap a couple extra chairs couldn't hurt?

And what you're saying about the Scottish lecturer Majohnna I don't find it too boring? I think physics is more boring but then again it could be the time of day the lectures are on.

I find earlier in the morning its harder to concentrate but later on when I have hubs its not too bad.

The Scottish guy is kind of hard to understand yeah but at least the subject is quite interesting.. Physics is so boring I actually feel like walking out.. He takes forever to explain something and most of the time it's still ambiguous. Althought you got to love the cliche.. Mad physicist, wacky hair, squeaky voice, completely lacking in sense of dress (the socks with sandals)..

Just don't bother turning up to lectures for physics then. You've got the course lectures slides right? In that new course book? See which days you're learning new stuff and just turn up to those :P.

Wow just got the most abuse of my life walking home from the library with my mates carying books and stuff. We somehow mananged to time it so we were walking past all the thursday night drinkers from my hall (pretty much every1) and otherwise!
So many calls of "Health sci faggots!" and " F*** you health scis!" and "why the f*** are you studying?"
Haha the price we pay it seems

You get abuse from people in your hall? That's pretty lame :/ I'd think that people in your own hall would at least give you some respect.

Totally, and they are all compensating for something.
is there anything in particular we will be studying on saturday? like anything i should prepare or think about specifically?

We are doing organic chem here in Auckland. Apparently the lucky ppl came from A level chem have all learned this stuffs before. We NCEA ppl will just have to spend more time on memorising the details.
How's the population health in Otago? We are having our first test on the 23rd:eek::(

It wasnt extremely threatening but more drunken mischief.
and mostly from people i didnt know.
I just get annoyed when people expect you to conform to this 'culture' of drinking every thursday and saturday. For the reason of conformity alone!
Plus they dont know me? They have no idea how much I want to get into medicine, a dream I have been following since almost the start of high school! do they have any idea of the motivation it requires to go to the library and study for a few hours after hours of lectures?
They seem to have no ability to see beyond a day or two (or even beyond their glasses of alcohol! lol) and think wait.... why am I here paying thousands of dollars and sitting in lectures? What's going to happen after these few numbered years at university? Will I just magically stop drinking get an amazing, satisfying job have HEAPS of money to travel the world and bring up a family?
Haha well it may be just me but that doesn't come without a bit of self sacrifice and focus

Haha anyway thats my angry rant over!
:)

The almost afro sideburns & the tennis ball on the string demonstration were the highlights so far.

Mostly the abuse I've seen is when my hall had the toga party or jungle party in stupid costumes and other halls yell stuff out but other than that its been alright.

I just realised how much he looks like Bilbo.. lol And yes the tennis ball was great. And also him running around in circles
