Tips for the CELS test.
Here's last years feedback for the terms test:
https://uploading.com/files/X146YH2Q/cels-Exam_feedback.pdf.html

With multichoice, when they say the BEST answer, then the answer they want is the only one that can be DIRECTLY concluded from the opening statement in the question. In that feedback file they go through that question on the secreting cell. B is the ONLY answer that follows DIRECTLY from "a cell that is secreting proteins". The other answers require assumptions. Other than that the multichoice section should be easy.

With the short answers, be as succint as possible no matter what. Write very short sentences that get the point across with minimal words. Never ever ever try and waffle. It's fine to put down some points that may not directly be answering the question, but put them at the end and do not spend much time on them. Sentences should be less than a line long on the page preferably. Make sure you answer the questions too. Think carefully about what they want you to write down, not what you think you know about that question. In our MSO meetups alot of the time you guys would offer words that were related but it didn't answer my question at all when I asked you. Write what the examiner wants to hear, not what you think you know about that subject.
Thanks I will definatly keep that in mind. Escpecially about the short answer questions

I've compiled all the objectives into one doc.

Good luck to everyone incase I don't post anything between now and the test!!

test was easy as!! i did too much study cooked myself. it was the easist test of my life i reckon. actually skyglow and arutha scared us b4 da test or may be it was harder last year.

Damn straight it was harder last year. The max number of marks per short answer question was 2 in your test!!! We had 4 mark questions last year. Plus our GLM was included as a page of short answer questions in the test, which was way more difficult than an online multichoice test, and our test was worth 30% which is way more pressure :P

Anyway you guys should feel guttered it was easy, cause then it's harder to put yourself ahead of the competition :)

Phwoar, its 4pm and I just woke up from my epic nap after the exam.

Test was way easier than I anticipated. I tripped up over a couple of questions like that non-disjunction MCQ - answer was it causes XYY, not Familial Downs Sydrome which I foolishly chose. Also the causes of anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia question, I put 'all of the above' because two of the options were X-inactivation and heterozygosity, and it most commonly occurs in carrier females, right? The lecture slides said "Three generations of females heterozygous for sex-linked anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, the absence of sweat glands (blue = affected cells)." I think another one of the options was "X-linkage" - isn't that similar to "sex-linkage" which is clearly quoted above? I duno, two of my clever friends said X-inactivation. I'm probably wrong.

What did you guys put for the last question? In what tissue does it occur most frequently? I put ovary, others put ovary or testies. My argument was females carry two X chromosomes while males carry only one, so it occurs most frequently in female sex organs AND the question asked for a tissue not tissues.

Btw when they say "2marks" "1mark" etc, does that mean "2 points are required" "one point is required", respectively? Or are they looking for more than one point for a one mark question?

absence of sweat gland was x-inatcivation. wasn't it nerve tissue for the last question because it asks 4 tissue. me silly for the last question normal human thingy i put "23 chromoseomes" forgot to add "pairs" in it. it is 23 pairs of chromosomes.

It asked how many of the above structures would be present in a normal male cell. I just put '23' as did many others, I'm sure you don't need to state the obvious - that they are chromosome pairs.

no yo do need to state that. anyway, i studied till morning and then went 4 the test which is silly. now i dnt get sleep my eyes are tired as...

Right...Btw the sweat glands question had been confirmed to be 'all the above'

No we're in the new hsfy thread, the "listen up" one lol. Kinda progressed from pre-hsfy panick (this thread) to current hsfy panick (the new thread).

Hmm last question I put "Reproductive tissue - Ovaries & Testes"
Mega fail though. Not impressed with my test really.

Ah well theres still the big test to go so maybe it can be salvaged haha

Oh this is where all the Otago ppl went lol. We had a big test too, 36%. But the cell test you guys are talking about seems like our BIOSCI101 which we are going to sit after the break.

I thought it was better to have SAQs with more marks. We had an embryo question that worths 10 marks lol.
