Booked L103.
Can we do some cell stuff, like distilling what was important in some of the cells lectures we have been having. esp. cell walls and maybe some stuff from the last few lectures (the new guy we have is unclear and rambling). On the other hand I find the Hubs lady to be pretty good. Did everyone in your lecture streams go "Ohhh," when she zoomed in on the bones with that camera? It's also funny when she greets every single person that comes late.

Yes, yes they did.

Also were you in the lecture when Jaques or someone came in at the end and he asked if anyone had comments about the lectures and the guy in the front row said "youre going too fast"?
And pretty much everyone booed because its actually quite the opposite pace wise.

That guy was in the minority. I think that the lecturer is methodical and goes through everything quite well. Anyway, I thought that Jaques original question was about note taking/study and not critiquing the lecturer. It seemed as though he just blurted it out. :)

I think you guys won't exactly be in the mood for an MSO meetup right after your HUBS test so I think we won't have one this week. Good luck on your test though :)

Whats with these pranks in lectures at St Davids today? In 2 out of 3 lectures theres been pranks, possibly inititations?

In HUBS at 9 a group of 5 asian guys ran in screaming wearing surgical masks and took a photo with the lecturer, then threw lollies at people and finally took their tops off which was quite disturbing, and ran out of the theatre.

Then at 11 in cells a guy showed animal cruely when he threw a duck into the air which looked hurt/drugged and couldn't fly so it hit the ground next to the lecturer.

Who knows, sometimes there's promotional challenges where you get prizes for doing something like that. Or else it's a dare, initiation, extremely drunk, what have you.

Yeah, good luck for your terms test. You guys will do well I'm sure, you all seem so motivated to succeed :).

You guys wanna meet up thursday evening? We can book a central library room, its open until 11pm. We can focus on the 'muddiest points' of HUBS, sound good?

The duck died. That was so mean when the guy threw the duck in the air, and you literally heard everyone gasp. Hope they catch the f@*#er that did it.

But on a lighter note. When those guys wearing surgical masks came in, I thought that they were gunmen or something, and I was all ready to (for lack of a better word) duck and cover. Then they started laughing and throwing lollies. :)

Good luck for the test. The only place you could screw up is if you don't read the question carefully and really think about what it's asking you about. You guys should be fine though.

Good luck everyone! Looking forward to hearing all your excellent marks ;P

It was good, not great or bad but good. There was two or three questions that I am a little iffy about, but appart from that it was ok. I feel said to know that the tests get harder -they must get waay harder, or everyone would say that HSFY is super easy! -cells is gonna be much harder. You can't hide that you don't know the answer with short answer, as you can with MCQ. I think I overstudied for HUBS. :)

I found the test really easy but apparently a lot of people got owned, just as skyglow predicted. I can't remember all of the questions, but here were some of my answers:

-Axial skeleton question was 'none of the above' because it was referring to pelvic girdle and axial skeleton doesn't involve any limbs
-Human tissues act question - deceased person's wishes blah blah blah
-struts of tissue was trabeculae
-'none of the above' for the cells that break down ECM
-For the gait cycle question, quadriceps femoris and stance phase were affected
-collagen fibres cause resilience and tensile strength
-Calcium ions allow contraction of sarcomere (myosin and actin)
-Tissue that affects the anterior and posterior part of the knee was cruciate ligament
-Ankle joint was hinge and moves in sagittal plane
-knee joint was condylar
-Cells immediate environment was extracellular fluid
-Neutraliser question - this one was quite dodgy, i was tossing up "1, 2, 3" and "2,3" and ended up choosing "2,3". Option 1 was it works against agonists which doesn't make sense because why would they call it a neutraliser instead of an antagonist?
-For the 'pennate muscle' question I said it was the great cross sectional area thingy, again, a bit iffy about this one.
-Muscle tone was small amount of activity in muscles... something or other
-Force of contraction is dependent upon number of motor units
-Question about why negative feedback is negative - because switching on leads to switching off etc
-Control of core body temp was the skin allows exchange of heat
-treatment of diabetes type 1: glucometer, injection, schedule meals
-Which one of these is correct about negative feedback or something - sensor and integrator were the same tissue.

That's all i can remember from the test. lol

Discuss!!
