When I'm applying to otago as a competitive graduate

do I just need to provide evidence of my current immunity status (form D) as I may not be immunised with some infections described or do I need to take vaccinations and show evidence that I am immune to the infections before I send in my application?

Form D stated "only immunity status is required for the purposes of admission. Vaccinations are not a requirement of admission" but section 1.20 Immunity status in the admissions guideline stated "applicants will be expected to make arrangement with their local general practitioner to undertake serology (blood) tests, and vaccinations if required" so I was a little confused.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread..

I've also applied through the competitive graduates pathway. I think I'm just going to send in form D with my immunity status, and then get vaccinated if requested.

By the way, did you lodge a separate application with Otago University in addition to applying for the professional programme via the health sciences website?

yea I did

I dunno if I've done it correctly though
just applied for some random programmes
o well
hope everything goes well with your application :)
I'm finding 3rd year quite hard compared to the other years :(

Ahh less than 3 weeks until UMAT results!!

Btw, i was just going through HUBS lec 13 audio, and got really bugged at 23:15

I'll quote what she says about the diaphragm...

"The muscle fibre arrangement comes from the bottom of the diaphragm straight up to the apex"

I s**t you not. Listen to it for yourselves if you don't believe me..

Anyways, hows everyone finding BIOC? And when do the Med applications open?

dogtown: Thanks! All the best with your application too :)

koochkooch: Online applications were available from 1 September. They close on 1 October. Might be a good idea to note down the dates so you don't miss the deadline. All the best!

Argh...this is like the CELS mid sem exam all over again...this time im gonna try so hard to learn EVERYTHING on the slides..didnt get 100 in cels so want 100 in bioc so badly lol (which i like to think of as cels192).

Besides all the content to memorise, I'd say BIOC is quite an easy subject thankfully

Yeah, well said. I think we can all conclude the same thing: memorisation ftw. Imho I reckon this whole process of Medicine admissions is flawed on so many levels.

Well if I was a patient, I wouldn't have cared how many hours at night you surfaced-learnt rubbish just so you can get into a job that would have earnt you alot of money.

I think by having a focus on rote learning they aim to get more 'hard working' people into med rather than the 'naturally smart ace tests with no study' people. Seeming that medicine is more acustomed to these kinds of people, the intention is valid.
Whether or not this actually happens is a different story

I heard of a guy last year or so that got a 99 average (!!!!!!!), but failed to reach the umat thresholds for each section. So not purely based on hardwork I guess..

Meh epi was better than i expected, 85%, not great but good considering i wasnt expecting any better than 70%

I put 1.1, but since i thought it was 1 i didnt know whether to put 1.1 or 0.9 as it was half way, it was kinda hard! What did everyone put for the protein chylomicrons had? i put ApoC2.ALso what did you guys put for the met Hb one, i put the haem dissociated away from the globin, hope thats right, it was either that or moving into the plane or something, also the isozyme one i got confused on a bit, put 4, but i think it was actually 5.
Also for reaction velocity was the answer 0.39?
overall pretty easy i thought especially for a 20% test, way better than epi! think i should get at least 90%.
How did everyone else go?

I put 1.1, but since i thought it was 1 i didnt know whether to put 1.1 or 0.9 as it was half way, it was kinda hard! ----- > 0.9, closer to 1 than 0.7, so uses more carbohydrate. That was the question. Not RER of carbohydrate

What did everyone put for the protein chylomicrons had? i put ApoC2.
----> this is right

ALso what did you guys put for the met Hb one, i put the haem dissociated away from the globin, hope thats right, it was either that or moving into the plane or something, -----> mutation in haem pocket.
Fe 3+ state is stabilised, so can't be dissociated from the globin, haem can't move into plane because it can't change to R state. Allosteric link is lost.

also the isozyme one i got confused on a bit, put 4, but i think it was actually 5.
-------> it is 5.

Also for reaction velocity was the answer 0.39?
-----> actually 0.42
