Hi again- Can someone offer an insight into chances with UCAT 3130 estimated ATAR 98.9, QLD domestic student , no special considerations, non rural,
What are the chances of UQ med/Dent, and CQ Med?
Should I even spend a preference on QTAC applying for JCU med or not?

Hi - Filling out the TISC application - is the UWA a graduate entry pathway for med? IT gives 2 options for Bachelor of Sci Phil and Bachelor of Sci Biomed- confused at the options - thanks in advance.
How many med course can we apply for in WA and how many dental?
Similarly for UTAS - there is just one med course option? thanks!

UWA is a provisional entry pathway into medicine. There are essentially two options you can go through, so either Bachelor of Science Biomedical Science or Philosophy. You can apply for two med courses in WA DIRECT ENTRY. This also includes Curtin University for their renowned 5-year program apart from UWA. I am also a Year 12 student in WA, so looking for answers for UTAS.

In WA, other than Curtin for direct entry school leaver, there are none. Notre dame offers postgraduate entry and thats all I can think of at this moment.

Curtin is one, the other is UWA although UWA means "direct" 3-4 years later, not via GAMSAT + interview then.

With UWA direct/provisional, if you choose Biomed undergrad you get to skip MD year1 so it's 3yr Biomed + 3yr MD. Otoh Philosophy undergrad can be several variations : if you choose Biomed + 1yr research Honours it's 3+1+3, if you choose non-Biomed like Commerce you don't get to skip MD1 so it's 3+1+4.

Thank you to everyone who replied! I denied the allegations and they promptly replied back saying that my scores will not be valid for this year at all and the universities will be notified of this issue. They also generously allowed me to take the test again next year. However, I've already replied and asked them exactly on what grounds they deemed my scores to be 'invalid' because they gave me no evidence or explanation.

I'll keep updating the scenario as it continues on just in case anyone else is facing this too either now or in the future

Ok so for the NSW unis,

- UNSW is borderline. If you can bag the 99 and EAS, and the final Selection Rank carries you over 99.50, you should get an interview. (Last year they had hard 99.50 and 90%ile UCAT cutoffs).
- JPM (WSU) is also borderline. A lot more likely for you if you have a good VR (700+) but a lot less likely if your VR is low.
- JMP (UoN/UNE) is very unlikely because of the high cutoffs for UCAT.

For other unis outside of NSW, I’m sorry to say but I don’t think you’ll get anything for the UCAT based unis. Maybe you’ll get Flinders if you get a 99.95 ATAR or you are under the University Equity Scheme (UES) (which is limited to select schools which are disadvantaged).

Alternatively, I highly recommend applying to JCU and Bond if you can afford that. JCU is non-UCAT but there is a huge emphasis on medical experience and rural medicine. Bond’s main issue is just the money lol.

It may seem disheartening, but I recommend applying anyway and see what happens. All the best!

I forgot to mention, USYD also has E12 for its Medicine Double Degree. (It's too late to apply for now since SRS applications closed, IIRC). If you applied, it lowered the raw ATAR you needed for it to 99.50, as opposed to the 99.95 for non-E12.

Not sure if this is related, but how does monash know if you are a local or interstate applicant? If I relocate to victoria during my gap year but I studied interstate in year 12, will I be considered as a local vic. applicant?

No, I doubt it. If it's anything like UTAS you'd need to have completed year 12 at a Victorian High School. This is information VTAC will have access to (and therefore Monash).

When you say ‘first degree’ does this mean you have another one? If so, what it is the GPA for that one? Most non-standard unis use your most recent degree as long as you’ve done a certain FTE (maybe 1 year?).

I believe WSU will also use the new degree GPA (a friend received an offer on this basis from 1 year FTE of a second degree). But I can’t remember if 6.0 is enough for them. I think it’s closer to 6.4 for 1 year. Best to double check with them/their website.

I've just had a look and it is a 6.2 GPA requirement for 1 fte completed year. I've emailed them to see which of my 2 GPAs they would consider for application purposes. Hopefully its the more recent one even though its an uncompleted degree.

Hey, I was in a similar situation last year. I previously did one year of an incomplete degree before transferring to a different degree but UAC ended up submitting my latest GPA (only 1 FTE year of my new degree) which was 6.0 - I called UAC before offers were released to confirm.

I am writing advice for Medicine, not Dentistry.
VIC
- With MG, SEAS at 99.85 Selection Rank and 90th%ile UCAT, you will get an interview at Monash for sure.

NSW
- UNSW is borderline, since they had a hard cut-off at the 90th%ile last year. Consider applying for EAS here to boost your raw 99.00, otherwise it would not be enough because of the 99.50 cut-off.
- JPM (WSU) very very low chance since you are not GWS, unless your VR is 900 or something. But even then, that's difficult.
- JMP (UoN/UNE) low chance, since 94%ile was the cut-off last year, however it could change.
- USYD Medicine Double Degree is also zero chance unless you get 99.95

QLD
- I think someone last year got an offer for a medicine double degree at CQU at 86%ile, so consider applying there.
- JCU is non-UCAT, so apply anyways. However, there is an emphasis on tropical/rural medicine specifically so you need those clinical experiences to really stand out.
- UQ's cut-off last year was around 93rd?%ile for UCAT, so you have quite a low chance.
- Bond is good considering your ATAR, however, be prepared to pay HEFTY fees. Only choose this pathway if you absolutely can afford it.
- Griffith Medicine is zero chance unless you get a 99.85+ ATAR.

SA
- UAdel is very low, considering they have extremely high UCAT cutoffs for non-SA students. (i.e. around 96th%ile).
- Flinders is no chance unless you qualify for UES (University Equity Scheme)
