I believe WSU will also use the new degree GPA (a friend received an offer on this basis from 1 year FTE of a second degree). But I can’t remember if 6.0 is enough for them. I think it’s closer to 6.4 for 1 year. Best to double check with them/their website.

For non-GWS, 1 semester FTE is 6.4 and 1 year FTE is 6.2.

I am writing advice for Medicine, not Dentistry.
VIC
- With MG, SEAS at 99.85 Selection Rank and 90th%ile UCAT, you will get an interview at Monash for sure.

NSW
- UNSW is borderline, since they had a hard cut-off at the 90th%ile last year. Consider applying for EAS here to boost your raw 99.00, otherwise it would not be enough because of the 99.50 cut-off.
- JPM (WSU) very very low chance since you are not GWS, unless your VR is 900 or something. But even then, that's difficult.
- JMP (UoN/UNE) low chance, since 94%ile was the cut-off last year, however it could change.
- USYD Medicine Double Degree is also zero chance unless you get 99.95

QLD
- I think someone last year got an offer for a medicine double degree at CQU at 86%ile, so consider applying there.
- JCU is non-UCAT, so apply anyways. However, there is an emphasis on tropical/rural medicine specifically so you need those clinical experiences to really stand out.
- UQ's cut-off last year was around 93rd?%ile for UCAT, so you have quite a low chance.
- Bond is good considering your ATAR, however, be prepared to pay HEFTY fees. Only choose this pathway if you absolutely can afford it.
- Griffith Medicine is zero chance unless you get a 99.85+ ATAR.

SA
- UAdel is very low, considering they have extremely high UCAT cutoffs for non-SA students. (i.e. around 96th%ile).
- Flinders is no chance unless you qualify for UES (University Equity Scheme)

Volunteering at a clinic or having experience in a medical setting definitely helps to boost your JCU application. It gives it solid substance for the interviewers to judge you off of, because you can talk about it more clearly, give real life examples of what you have learned in a specific medical setting.

JCU really has an emphasis on tropical/rural medicine, and their whole personal statement thing is very catered specifically toward getting in students who have that volunteering experience and know that they want to do medicine.

However, it’s not really something you can apply for unless you meet certain financial? pensioner? criteria or you are in a disadvantaged school. If you are outside SA, you can’t really determine what schools are considered disadvantaged by SATAC’s standards.

It’s hard to say what SJT score is required as Flinders considers your score as a whole. I would recommend looking at past results and seeing if you can aggregate all of their ucat scores together and use the lowest total as your benchmark

Being from Qld you need a QTAC preference for a backup in case you miss out med/dent. Use your undecided slot for that.

After interview invites are released and IF you don't get one for CQU, you can replace the CQU pref with Griffith GC (in previous years Griffith prefs were not closed until December). Your prefs will be Griffith Nathan > Griffith GC > USC, just in case Nathan cutoff is higher and you get GC rather than 7-year USC.

Also, how much of an impact does it make to get a schools letter of support because it's a bit of a trek to go to my school and get the Wellbeing Teacher to write me one if its due ASAP

Sorry to tell you the 50%ile eligibility is meaningless. The competitive cutoff for interview invites is often quite higher. Tbh non-rural 57%ile doesn't look promising for CQU or USQ even with a top ATAR (but leave it in just in case).

Meantime try to maximise your ATAR to improve your chances at Griffith and JCU. All the best.

Hey, I was in a similar situation last year. I previously did one year of an incomplete degree before transferring to a different degree but UAC ended up submitting my latest GPA (only 1 FTE year of my new degree) which was 6.0 - I called UAC before offers were released to confirm.

That's great to hear - I'll definitely call them and check they've taken my latest one too.

By any chance do you know when the FTE year has to be completed, my first year won't finish until February 2023 so think it might be too late anyway. I've emailed the universities asking about this anyway so no stress if you don't know.

How does that improve my ATAR for UQ ? Also I have 1 EAS approved category , how much does that increase my ATAR? My predicted ATAR is 99.5 . Thanks heaps.

Yea, the minimum marks are kinda meaningless.
Anyways, I'm hopeful for getting an interview with 3170 UCAT for UADEL. I hope I can make the interviews so i can use my 99.85 ATAR + a possibly good interview to secure a place in some med school.

Last year the cutoff was 94th%ile. Unfortunately, we cannot predict what the interview cutoffs would be.

Adding to what JeydinNewWon said, there’s not a pre-determined cut-off, the cut-off is the result of the UCAT scores of the people who apply. So even UoN can’t tell what UCAT will be required until all applicant’s scores have been listed and they’ve filled the available interview slots.

You’re unlikely to be competitive for any UCAT requiring university.

If QTAC converts you to 99.75 then the Griffith/USC unis could be on the cards but last year I think 99.8 was required.

JCU, Bond (if financially feasible), non-standard, and graduate entry are your best bets.
