Depends what life stage you're at. As a Y12 student about 14 med schools, as a pre-grad uni student 5, as a uni grad about 18.
How many you are competitive for is a different matter though.
Hello! Do the 18 unis for grad students are only UCAT ones? Or do these 18 also count GAMSAT?

It's ~12 GAMSAT graduate schools + 4 UCAT undergrad schools (JMP WSU UNSW Curtin) + 2 non-UCAT JCU & Bond.
(I hope I counted correctly on my 18 fingers :D )

I'm surprised that you enjoy reading political and history news (not that it's a bad thing, I think it's very good in fact). I think for me personally I don't enjoy reading politics/history all that much (unless of course, it's ancient history, which then I stan so much). Did you do anything like read Wikipedia articles then attempt to recall afterwards?
Haha, sorryyy I'm a modern history stan :). But ancient history is still a massive respect.
Yeah I'm not sure, I've always been somewhat fascinated/invested into politics/modern history but disliked public speaking and the potential media scrutiny associated with being a politician, or a political commentator, and things like that. Might be something for me look into after doing med, like working on healthcare policy/lobbying on a state or federal level :). Who knows?

Also nah I didn't do any prep like that. I've heard of things like that though and it's helped ppl. For me, it was just the ability to 'move on' from difficult questions (which was painful!) that was crucial for me maintaining timing and doing well.

You can see an above response to see all the mocks and minimocks I did in a link/photo. (Content removed) but I never really did much until the last month. I had a lot of time to do extra UCAT bc of trials postponement (I aimed to do one mock per day for three weeks), but I never really did minimocks and I didn't do much of the question banks they offered except for AR in the final days because it was my worst. In the last few days however prior to my test I spent like 24 hours over 3 days grinding more mocks and questions and minimocks. (Took leave from school the day before my test!)

The day before I spent the whole day from 8-10:30 pm doing 2 mocks, like 9 minimocks and a bunch of AR Qbank questions from the official UCAT resources. Overall I spent a decent amount of time preparing, tho it was only really doing mocks because when I started, I was already doing very well so I wasn't TOO stressed about targeted intense preparation. I just tried to do a mock everyday to make sure I was consistent and obviously to maximise getting the highest score possible bc the UCAT is really important. In hindsight I should've focussed earlier on AR and VR (and ig DM considering my score) and started preparing long ago since there's so many questions in these prep company programs, but it doesn't matter now haha.
You deserve your amazing score with all the hard work you put in!! :DD congrats again!

I’m also a big reader but more so into science and people’s own life story and such! (I do enjoy reading quite the few memoirs).

VR is just really nerve wracking since you gotta read the text real quick and you don’t have the time to hesitate with the answers...something which is very counter to my second-guessing nature!

Congratulations on your results, but I thought Year 11 students weren't eligible to sit the UCAT, or was that rule not in place last year?
I think cause he did accelerated subjects he was on the road to finish in year 11 so it classified as year 12?

Hi everyone I did my ucat today for the second time because last year I didn't get the result I wanted. I got 2970. I wanted to do UNSW non standard entry as I'm at USC/Griffith medicine right now and I don't think I scored enough however we will wait and see I guess.
Here were my individual scores
VR 740
DM 660
QR 830
AR 740

DM was much harder than I anticipated as in practice it was much easier to me and easily my strongest section. I got overconfident and underestimated it I guess so remember to treat all sections equally!

Hi, there!

Interesting to see you got into med already but you wanna do non-standard at UNSW. If I might ask, is this for any particular extenuating reason? From what I recall, UNSW only accepts students from other medical schools under very specific conditions/reasons. (Possibly like financial, or family support I guess).

I would assume it’s because his or her home state was located near UNSW, so be closer to family.

Griffith is provisional Med. If the student is only in the provisional component of the degree, they’re eligible to apply to all non-standard unis as they’re not technically a Med student yet. They will start at year one.

They may be exempt from this clause because they aren't strictly studying "medicine" at the moment, the first two years at Griffith/USC are a Bachelor of Medical Science.

Edit: beat me to the punch by 10 seconds hahah

Hi, and yes as ucatboy and LMG have said is correct from my understanding and i would like to do it as i would like to practice medicine in sydney and do my internship in sydney, I am from queensland but I like Sydney and want to have a forseeable future there. From what i have heard it is quite a bit more difficult to practice medicine interstate as you don't have the connections and the built up studying you would have if you did study medicine/did your internship in NSW. I do know it is a bit selfish as i already have a provisional entry seat though haha.

I don't think you're being selfish at all. I think you're carefully considering your career options and your personal preferences, while still recognising that non-standard and grad entry med are both also incredibly competitive and no guarantee. You accepted your provisional offer in case that's the only offer you ever end up with, and I think that's totally fair enough!

At the end of the day, if you get a non-standard spot in NSW, your vacated spot will be taken up by a very grateful GAMSATer :D
