745 should be safe for GWS. Last year even with the inflated UCAT scores GWS interview cutoff was ~700

I am GWS. Using the WSU Formula (58%VR +12%DM + 12%QR +18%AR) gives me a score of 707.8. I am guessing last year that would have given me an interview, so I should most likely receive one if scores don't up this year?

Just wait for percentiles and stuff like that to release. You'll be able to ask your question then.

Thank you A1. That has really helped shift my mood! Much needed in the lead up to Trials. Was feeling quite fatigued by the constantly shifting goal posts... plus my school is in an affected LGA in Sydney...

I am confused by the "inflated" scores last year - what does this mean? How were the scores inflated?!

The average scores were higher. Hopefully this year the average is the lowest it has ever been haha.

So, they weren't inflated then? People just worked harder last year and last year's cohort simply achieved higher marks? Is that what happened? I thought the test was standardised - what factors would cause the average to shift?

There are too many factors to consider. This is something you should NOT be concerned about. Chill out and wait for percentiles!

Thoughts:
VR:
I found the VR to be ok, just messed up my timing for one of my sets which tanked the rest of my score as i started to panic

DM: Maybe a little harder than official mocks, but the pens i was provided were so trash, which wasted a lot of my time, i had to write at a certain angle with them to get it to work and so it was a bit annoying, but overall i thought it was alright

QR: Dont go into this thinking it will be a breeze, its not hard to do well in it but you have to have the right mindset, unless you're just a beast at it, but for a normal person i think you shouldn't risk it and go in expecting some degree of time pressure. Also my pen just stopped working and i had to ask for new ones and i took like three (should have asked for multiple pens, i recommend you do )

AR: it was pretty easy

SJT: lmao i just sat there for like 10 mins cause i thought i bombed qr and then i just quickly answered the questions and finished it like 5 mins early

General comments on your experience:

Overall the centre was aight just the pens are really trash and i recommend asking for multiple ones.

Lmao i thought i bombed the test when i finished it, but i was pleasantly surprised with my score and got it in like 30 minutes from the completion of my exam and for anyone wondering i was averaging in the high 2800s in my practise mocks (prep + official)

dont think i can get wsu considering my vr is pretty low, despite being from gws, my score using the wsu formula is 700.2 i think, but i will be applying interstate so hoping for the best

Many factors were into play. The increased number of people sitting the exam, (due to covid many students decided to sit the ucat because of the lack of travel or work), the difficulty of the 3 exam papers and also how well the cohort performed overall. It was also the second year of the UCAT meaning there are several people who had experience in the first year and scored higher in their second year.

None of us here can predict how the scores will shift this year. Like 2xq said, chill out and wait for either preliminary or official results. This may seem difficult but focus your mind on other things that you have control over (atar/gpa, interview skills etc). Congrats on your score too!

They were inflated in the sense 2019 90%ile was 2830, 2020 jumped to 2930 = average 25pts higher per section.
This was indeed reflected in WSU cutoffs, 2020 non-GWS jumped +30pts, GWS +15pts from 685 to 700.

So for your 745 to miss GWS this year the percentile scores would need to jump (45*4) = 180pts, making 90%ile = 3100. Now if this does happen I will petition for UCAT ANZ to be known as terror organisation 😁

Thank you for taking the time to offer an explanation. Was mildly curious and simply thought to ask. Cheers.

Thx for reply. Not concerned at all. Feeling chilled after A1's reassurance. Was mildly curious and simply thought to ask. Cheers.

Very grateful A1. Moreso for not being dismissive. Thanks.

UCAT ANZ has always been known as a terror organization.

Is there any way to replicate the aspect ratio that the ucat computers have. I get the feeling I would freak out if something like that happened.

I believe this is an issue that has occurred over all testing years to date and that the answer has been no, it can’t be changed.

ahhh I see thanks. But I was actually more unsure about what actually happens with the aspect ratio thing because I wanna try and replicate it on a device I use.

Ah, gotcha. I think the problem is that not all computers have the altered ratio, and we also don’t know if all that are different are different in the same way. If you can change your screen, it might be worth having a play around.

Change your resolution on your computer to 1280x1024... I dont see how it makes much difference though.,
yeh it doesn't really but I wasn't sure because people were talking about how it was very weird. Just tried out what you said, it actually makes VR a lot easier for me for some reason

Did anyone driving to one of the Sydney test centres get stopped by police? I'm trying to time my commute so that I'm not too early, and not late. In particular, I suspect there might be police on the City West Link (A4), but I haven't been out in a while. Can someone comment on this?

Not sure about going to a test centre but quite a few people I know have been stopped by police.
