Post-UMAT 2018 Debrief Thread

Not open for further replies.
Okay everyone, I’m down to 5% phone battery. Congratulations on making it through! Woot!

Now for the wait!

This thread will remain open until results are released, which could be anytime from Sept 1st!, so feel free to use it to keep in touch with one another while you wait.

Now you can get on with the non-UMAT parts of your life :D

Sorry about that @ mods.

Lear - I'm fine mate, thanks for being so great.

I just don't know how to feel about anything haha.

I've got a week or so before uni starts, so there will finally be time for me to unload. :p

It's hard to really judge how one goes after an exam like the UMAT. All we can do is hope for the best. If it doesn't turn out the way you wish, there are always other means. I hope you absolutely hit it out of the park. Good luck :)

doesn't want to change life, as she doesn't make a bid deal of it. also she's teh one who brought up the convo first, saying something about reporters

yup

is it also farfetched that I had the same answer?
I said she doesn’t wanna discuss the win. And no it was the husband who said “where’s my rich wife” or something so he started it. She wouldn’t wanna start the convo because she feels bad for using mum jewellery to buy tickets. Especially when she says she used mums jewellery and the husband replies “oh” then she defensively says “yeah but it was mine” even though he never said anything about using the jewellery. She felt the need to be defensive.

For the next part I think losing hope in relationship was far-fetched but definitely the best option out of 4 horrible options haha

+1 for doesn't want to discuss topic, reason being that she spoke of the reporters and not about the lottery specifically. The fact that she said she sent away the reporters also implied that she didn't want to talk about the topic to anyone.

I want that lottery win luck in the form of all the questions I guessed or narrowed down to 2/3 options being the correct guess

Now there was a question asking whether she felt defensive or guilty. At first I put down guilty, but then I read over again and she didn’t really show any signs of it and realised I was bringing in my own personal emotions so changed it to defensive.

I'm expecting the next mod shift to come on any time now A1

That makes so much sense, but I'm still going to maintain my stance so that I'll have some sense of sanity after this is over.
While I'll admit that it was implicitly implied that she doesn't want to talk about the topic, it could be said that this is simply an extension of her wanting to maintain a normal life, which is explicitly stated through her actions i.e. the husband worrying that the wife won't be making dinner, setting up take (something along those lines) due to the events, when she actually did, and then they had their dinner as per usual...

Ugh... If only I could choose both answers

Yep I also got this answer. Also if you read carefully, there was a mention of her moving about the kitchen nervously or something similar. She definitely didn’t want to discuss it.
Also she was defensive.

I might be crazy here, but I picked the 5250 answer for the snow air bubbles question. My reasoning was my interpretation of the text that an air bubble forms when the snow becomes compact, thus networks of air get closed off, which I assume(d?) leads to the air in the compact snow pushing up to the non compactef snow.

Hence, I picked the answer where the air bubble is either the same age or older than the surrounding snow, but never younger.

Did I just absolutely flop on this question or does my interpretation make any sense?

Just letting people know that there are people who will sit UMAT on an alternative test date due to serious illness and by sharing ACER questions you are potentially disadvantaging yourself. Also, do consider the consequences of sharing UMAT questions given that it is a breach of their misconduct guide.

that was my way of thinking too! not sure if it was right though

Hypothetically true, but ACER already thought of that. I bet the alternative test will have largely different questions.

This year's exam had questions that were borrowed from another year's. It is possible that ACER sets completely different exams, but it is also possible that there may be some crossover. The exam is finished and nothing we do now can change the outcome, at most you can only disadvantage yourself by sharing questions.

I actually sat it last year in alternative exam period. When I came on here after my exam I realised if I had come on earlier I would have given myself an advantage. (same questions)

ACER are not the universities, they do not have a vested interest in making sure the exam is fair and selecting the best candidates. Setting a completely different exam is more costly and time consuming given that they would have to come up with new questions.
