Pre-UCAT Discussion 2020

I would say that determining percentiles for SJT is pretty difficult particularly because of the partially correct factor. From what I understand, the scaling of it is also impacted by this because iirc last year the highest score for SJT was in the 700s as opposed to other sections which had people scoring in the high 800s (/900). In terms of its accuracy and how it translates into the actual test I would say your best bet is to gain an understanding of the vibe in each scenario since the themes they ask about are recurring and if you know the extent to which you must act in such a scenario you're more likely to choose the correct answer....you'll get better at this with practice. Once again as people have said above try to focus on improvement rather than the number of questions you've gotten incorrect. All the best!
Do you think the official stuff is harder than the actual UCAT? And should I be really stressed about it?

I don't think you should, iirc none of the undergrad medical schools even considered SJT for entry (except Monash? I think). I paid very little attention to SJT during my practice, I knew it would take way too long and be too hard to improve and it's not worth it.

I personally didn't think it was HARDER, it still made me think a bit which was similar to what I was doing in my practice. My life's mantra has become that you should try not to stress! Just give it your best shot! Upon reflecting on SJT I think I did ok so probably not worth the extra pressure I put on myself. Also not every uni considered SJT last year in their selection process, while this may change this year, I guess it also depends what uni/s you're interested in (I'd recommend Monash but some would say I'm biased :)).

Oh I meant as the practice test as whole, not just SJT

VR "felt easier", but that didn't explain why I tanked so hard (150 lower than official mock average, 200 lower than Medify average). I guess there were a lot of details both in the texts and the questions that I missed or overlooked, so my advice would be to read carefully and remain vigilant.

DM felt roughly the same, and I would almost say that it was thinner by a hair in the real thing. But I heard that another test set (there are three in circulation) had absolutely awful logic games questions, bordering on impossible, so your mileage may vary.

QR felt WAY easier than the official mocks, laughably easy imo. Whereas I struggled completing the QR of Mock A, B, C on time, I finished with time to spare in the real thing. There were no particularly difficult or complicated calculations that needed to be done in the real thing.

AR felt roughly the same, but AR is too unpredictable for me to make a clear judgement. All I'll say is that the pattern style and asthetic were identical (obviously) so it's very good practice.

SJ felt the same, but unis don't really care (for lack of a better word) about SJ so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick but very important update.

You may note that a couple of UCAT threads have disappeared. They have been hidden from view for now (though not deleted) because we have received notification from the MSO site owner that we (moderators and administrators) must place an immediate embargo on discussion of ALL UCAT prep courses.

Any mention of prep companies, whether directly or implied, will be deleted. This is something that we moderators and administrators have been asked to carry out, not something we have decided to put in place ourselves, so please help us out and do not post discussion, questions, reviews, or comments about any prep companies for the time being. I can't give you any additional information at this stage (partly because I don't really have any! Just this instruction!).

General chat, support, and advice seeking is absolutely a-okay, and we definitely encourage that to continue, but, for now, that's it.

Thank you all for your understanding.

From LMG! on behalf on the moderators and administrators and, ultimately, on behalf of MSO's site owner.

I did a practice mock yesterday and got 93rd percentile. I am not sure how good this is? Can anyone help me...
I also did a mini test today and got 800 on QR. (absolutely no clue what that means)

Are my scores good enough for me to get an offer at unis (I am in VIC and applying to all unis in Australia).

Please help !! Thanks :)

Well, a 93rd percentile means your results are in the top 7% of test-takers for that specific exam! It definitely is a good score. 800 is your scaled score, which is a score from 300-900 and is derived from your raw score. 800 is a really good achievement, keep it up 😍
If you want to know more about the scores/scaled scores for each subtest and percentiles, I suggest you take a look at the official UCAT website, which has all the info you need and can probably answer most of your questions if you're new to the UCAT.

I'm not too sure about specific unis but 93th percentile is a competitive score to be considered for med.

Adding onto this, the 93rd percentile is relative to other test takers (more motivated than the average UCAT test-taker), so if you were to pull off this kind of performance in the real exam, your actual percentile would likely be much higher! You're going great noodleboy123 :D

Hi guys. For how long do you think the UCAT will be delayed because of the COVID-19 situation? I'm asking this because I'm planning on purchasing a certain prep course. In normal circumstances, I would pay for 3-month access (up to July), but I may have to choose the 4-month or 5-month, etc., option. What do you suggest? 🤔

Nobody can give you a definitive answer as whether or not UCAT will be delayed, or indeed for how long it will be delayed. I'm sure there would be an option to initially purchase a shorter subscription and then add on extra months with additional payments if need be.

Hi guys. For how long do you think the UCAT will be delayed because of the COVID-19 situation?

UMAT used to be held in July with results released mid-Sept in time for TAC applications closing end of Sept. Pearson will probably take advantage of UCAT results being available instantly to delay and run it from mid-Aug to mid-Sept.

This might sound a little trivial but what size screens did they give you on the day? if you were to like guess how big would you say they were. Does anyone even possibly know what model they used?

it depends on the testing centre. The one I was at (Newcastle) was sort of a temporary testing centre, but they were large (27”) and widescreen. But there are comments in the post UCAT 2019 thread where people reference what kind of monitors they had

That thread is currently inaccessible until further notice, so if anyone else wants to weigh in on their screen experiences, please do :)

thank you!
