I'm optimistic 89%ile will get JMP interview. Little hope for WSU since you are not GWS presumably.

As they are it's also not quite enough for UNSW even with GPA 7.0 (due to your ATAR 98.55 weighing it down). But ask Smelly Boy whether you can get EAS considerations to boost your ATAR to 99.55 or .95, that might help get an interview.
Thanks man, I appreciate it

Hi

Since some of you guys have been here for a few years, I wanted to ask realistic chances of me scoring an interview @ non school leaver med/dent programs. My 2018 ATAR was 98.55, and my 2018 UMAT was 77th (ik I flopped hard but eh). Got a monash med interview and bombed it. I did the UCAT this year and scored 89th%ile, and my GPA as it stands is 7.0 (WAM of 95 ~BioMed). I also have EAS for living in bottom 30% of aussie locations and financial hardship (broke as tbh). I think I might be able to score an interview @ JMP (big if tho), what u guys reckon?
With regards to EAS, I think you’re eligible for two things: living in the bottom 30% thingy & the financial hardship (which you are aware of yourself). The bottom 30% bonus is automatically applied to your UAC application based on the address you put in. Financial disadvantage needs documentation. UNSW says that tertiary students should apply straight to them for special consideration by filling out the SCATS application (google this). They say to not apply via UAC and instead apply to them. When doing the SCATS application, include documentation that UAC asks for to prove your disadvantage as UNSW told me they use the exact same method as UAC when determining bonus points (so that’s things like Centrelink documents - family tax benefit A with your name on it, youth allowance etc. - to prove financial disadvantage). UNSW applies the bonuses to your ATAR &/or your GPA based on the timing of the disadvantage so make sure you include the timing of each disadvantage (e.g. if you were in a rough financial situation in year 12 then UNSW would give bonus points to your ATAR only. if you have had a major health problem in year 12 & first year uni, you’d get bonus points to your ATAR & GPA). GPA is very difficult to get any special consideration for at UNSW but it’s a worth a try. Worst thing they can say is no.

If you have any further questions regarding EAS then please email UNSW & try get them to tell you what the hell they do to calculate bonus points & then report back here 😎😎. Good luck

Hey Smelly boy, do you know if I could get atar bonus for long term illness of family member?
Not too sure my dear friend. Check if the uni you’re applying to gives bonus points & if they do, email the relevant people (UAC/QTAC etc.) and ask them about it. Give as much info to them as possible & make sure you have documentation ready.

Hey, do gap year students need to submit a predictive ATAR form to Curtin from the school? Thanks!
Best to send them an email. Chances are you probably can't since you need your school principal to sign off on it, and you are in a gap year so you aren't in school.

Hi,

Is UAC as simple and straightforward as it looks lol? I'm from QLD but applying through UAC to JMP>NSW, and all I had to do was enter my UCAT ID, I understand that all relevant GPA and whatnot will be looked at AFTER interview rounds for JMP, but is UCAT ID essentially the only other information I have to enter (Apart from name, DOB etc lmao)

I just don't want to screw anything up! Thanks in advance

From memory I think you have to give UAC your QLD student number. UAC then gives it a prefix code for Qld (so that it cannot clash with any students in other states) and that becomes your UAC id number.

Because I didn't complete year 12 this year, my LUI (QLD number) was optional, as was my student number for university, which I found somewhat odd. Regardless, I put my old QLD student number in there just incase

Thanks smelly boy, really appreciate it

Is there a reason why UNSW has the highest requirements out of all medicine universities? What makes it so popular? Thanks.

Probably because it's the most long-established med school left in the Sydney area (indeed, the only one near to the CBD) that still accepts school leavers. Simply put, supply and demand. Only two others in the whole of NSW take school leavers.

I'm a Victorian student currently in Year 12. I've begun my application for Flinders and UAdel on the SATAC website. However, my preferences currently show a status saying 'Not eligible'.

Not too sure what this means. Could someone please help? I've attached a screenshot.

If I want to get into medicine (don't mind where), would placing Flinders Uni as a higher preference than UAdel be a better choice?

If I receive an interview offer at UAdel (99.95, 97%ile) but completely fail the interview, am I still eligible for an offer at Flinders Uni?

Yes, you will get the offer you’re eligible for and if that is multiple, you’ll get your highest preference. If you want UAdel more than Flinders, you have to put it top because there’s no way you won’t get Flinders if you put it first, even if you are also eligible for UAdel.

Supply and demand. For people that want to stay in Sydney – UNSW, USYD and UWS are their only options (JMP is in Newcastle), and because there are so many applicants each year, and the academic culture being quite competitive with so many selective schools, cutoffs are high not just for UNSW but for all of them.
