Is Griffith post grad only? Or do they have a provisional scheme like uq??
If you're referring to medicine, yes they have a provisional scheme for school-leavers without any tertiary study - students do an undergraduate degree in medical science at the Gold Coast or Nathan campuses for 2 years before doing the 4 year MD based on Gold Coast, or a three year undergraduate degree at USC with guaranteed entry into the 4 year MD running at the Sunshine Coast.

Whats the requirements for medicine at melbourne university for undergrad/guaranteed entry? I cant put the option into my vtac.

Hey Jason,

Unfortunately Melbourne University does not offer undergraduate medicine, only Monash. Therefore you will not be able to select it on VTAC.

On the other hand, Melbourne University offers a ‘gauranteed pathway’ which means if you get a 99+ ATAR and meet certain requirements during your undergraduate you can ‘skip’ doing the GAMSAT and be gauranteed an interview for the MD program. However, it should be noted that this is firstly NOT a gauranteed place as you can fail the interview and secondly if you get between 99.00-99.85 you are given a Full Fee Place which is ~300k. For this you do not need to do anything special on VTAC, only pick an undergraduate which allows you to fulfil the MD prerequisites. Most choose to do Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Biomedicine.

Looking at a back up plan to study other health science subjects in Sydney if I cannot get an interview for Med.

Looking at ACU health degrees and it seems that there are additional adjustment points (bonus points) added if I get band 5 or 6 in Bio and Chemistry as well as if my high school is close by (5 points) up to a total of 12 points! That mean I could get a lowish ATAR of around 80 and still choose my degree there?

Can we have new 2018-19 Med schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards thread?
Hi!
We don't know how much the selection criteria has changed from last year, as interview invites haven't been sent out yet (we have no statistics from this year to analyse!)
I'm sure A1 will update the table if necessary, if we get any new information.

Can we have new 2018-19 Med schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards thread?

Thanks for the reminder. The table has been continually updated so is as current as I can manage. But I overlooked that the title 2017-18 gave first impressions it was for last year so have changed it to 2018 Updated.

Okay so I only just realised that my raw score is 1 higher than the sum of all my individual scores. Does this mean it's rounded? I don't really know how this affects me :\

s1: 60
s2: 56
s3: 51
overall 168 (non-standard)
Just hoping for a JMP

ACER calculates your overall score (sum) to several decimal places and then rounds it.
So if your scores were S1: 60.4, S2: 56.4, S3: 51.4, they will individually round down to S1: 60, S2: 56, S3: 51.
But your overall score would be 60.4+56.4+51.4 = 168.2 which will round down to 168.

I don't think this will affect you if you're applying for JMP which looks at S1 only for interview offers.
However I'm not sure if universities are provided with the decimal or the rounded version of UMAT scores.

In terms of how much it affects you, I don't know how JMP works out borderline scores. I think they run down the list and try to fill 750 interviewees so I guess it could be possible for two people with the same marks be rejected or accepted depending on their actual scores.

Your S1 score could range from 59.52 to 60.49.
You could have the combo 59.52 / 56.49 / 51.49 or you could have 60.4/56.4/51 or 60.4 / 56/51.4 or 60.49/56.49/50.49 and many combinations in between.

Thank you both so much! It's an interesting one. I feel like the universities should only get the rounded scores if that's all we get, but who knows honestly!

Some schools use the Overall score some use one or two individual Section scores. Whether they use the unseen-to-us decimals within these numbers is not a major issue. If they don't then all in 167.5-168.4 (or S1 59.5-60.4) are treated as equal, if they do some 60s will be higher or lower than other 60s.

The really odd one out is UQ who uses the sum of the three rounded section scores, thus possibly including three rounding errors. If you were to apply to UQ your OS 168 could end up ranking lower than some 167s.

Ahh thank you! Hahah I've just finished my undergrad at UQ so won't be heading back via the UMAT pathway that's for sure  but that is really fascinating to know

I was looking at which unis need extra documents or applications for Medicine or Dentistry, and the ones I completed so far is the predicted ATAR for Curtin, the application for JMP, the UNSW application and the JCU application and predicted ATAR. I also heard about an MD application form for Uni of Western Sydney but couldn't find it anywhere. Anyone know what this is or where to find it? Also, am I missing any other paperwork? Thanks

Hi guys,

I'm currently a non-standard interested in dent/med and I've just found out I have to defer all of my sem 2 exams to jan/feb next year (due to a trip relevant to my course I can't complete it at the normal dates). Just wondering what will happen in terms of my GPA and applications, do the unis just look at what I have so far for GPA for admissions? (I'm currently sitting at around a 5.7) Thanks!

Yes, I believe this will likely be the case, particularly for WSU and JMP if you’re applying to either of those. How many semesters have you completed?

I've currently completed 3 semesters, do you think it will be beneficial for me to have completed more? (or would it only be beneficial if I could increase my GPA by a significant amount?) If I did do exams at the normal time however, it would be mid November and GPA thus wouldn't come out till december sometime, would that be too late to be taken into consideration for some unis anyway?
