Is your friend a current student? It would seem like a very odd thing for WSU to start weighing all sections equally after progressively decreasing the contribution that S3 makes.

Yeah, I agree, it sounds very unlikely (though obviously possible. UTAS have made me incredibly wary of Med admissions decision making! Haha!).
What did UTAS do?
A change of the Med Dean could bring this about. But I just looked, the same Professor since 2011.
(btw she has impressive qualifications: MBBS UQ, PhD USyd, MBA USyd, FRACP, ANZSN, active obstetric/renal physician at Campbelltown Hospital apart from her Dean position).
In 2016 (for 2017 entry) they changed their admission criteria two weeks into Dec, then changed it again a week later. MSO went into meltdown
Fun times.
ETA: Interestingly, given @A1’s comment above; it was a change in Med Dean that brought this about!

No I haven’t heard anything. And A1 is right, Prof Hennessy is still our dean - and yes, very impressive!
I can’t imagine that they would change criteria so drastically but it’s possible.
Nope, it is a bridging course for tertiary entry not a tertiary level course, if that makes sense?
Someone pointed out that if WSU did this, they would pretty much be interviewing almost the exact same pool of candidates as UNSW.

Just called UAC, they confirmed that you could remove the Uni course from the preference list once you accepted the offer.

Who is your friend and is he or she a reputable source?
Just a quick question, does anyone know when the actual UAC entry offers come out for WSU, JMP and UNSW? I always thought they came out during the January 1st round on the 11th, but after perusing the forums for a bit I saw some people got their offers during the December round before Christmas? Just wanted some clarification, thanks!
There may have been CSU Dent offers before the January offer round, I don't recall any Med.

Advanced standing is, I’m guessing, not quite what you think it is. You definitely don’t need to (indeed, can’t) apply for this for Med. Advanced standing, otherwise known as recognition of prior learning, is when you’ve completed a unit in a previous enrolment that has considerable (70%+) crossover with a unit required for your current enrolment. On a case by case basis, you can effectively be excused from re-doing the content. This really only applies to students with previous tertiary achievements and (regardless of educational history) is not accepted for UTAS Med (you have to do all of everything from the start of year one no matter what your background is).
What you need to do is to mention somewhere (there used to be an ‘additional information’ section, so somewhere like that) that you’re enrolled in and intending to complete the UTAS chemistry bridging course as you understand it is a pre-requisite for MBBS. You could even attach a copy of your enrolment just to make it really obvious (even though, as I mentioned, UTAS will have access to this info - you just want to make doubly sure they see it!).
Hopefully that makes sense!
Previously, first round WSU Med offers came out in December. This was for local (eta: not locals, just rurals) and rural applicants only. I know this for a fact because it’s when I got my offer last year
I’m not sure what they’re planning this year, as I understand their interview process is going to be a little different.
ETA: this was not the case for JMP and UNSW, just WSU. Their rationale was that it gave rural students (possibly living far away) more time to organise their relocation.
