Quick Questions Thread #2: 2018-2019

Have you tried contacting SATAC about this? The main offer round is in 9 days - best to try and have your application sorted ASAP.

I was going to call later today if I couldn't get any answers from mso

You should call them, regardless of what MSO says. Best of luck. Medtastic Satac has an enquiry form on its website and you should fill it in now so that it is looked at sooner when they open.

Hi! Sorry if this is the wrong place, but could a current WSU med student / commencing WSU med student message me please? I have some questions! :)

I can't message you for some reason (privacy settings?) but you're welcome to message me if you haven't found someone yet - I'm going into second year at WSU this year.

Questions that JMP admissions answered via email

1. Is it possible to defer a medical spot at the University of New England/University of Newcastle?

2. Can BMP spots also be deferred?

(If yes to question 2 then assume the following questions also apply to the situation that I get a BMP spot & defer that)

3. Am I allowed to study at another university during the deferral time?

4. Am I allowed to defer the spot & apply to other medical schools in the following year?

Answer
You can apply to defer your offer and applications are assessed on their merit and not guaranteed. BMP offers can also be deferred. It is possible to complete other tertiary study during the year of deferment and apply to other medical schools during this time.

Question unanswered
I had a question referring to the way they give out offers - I asked if it was like this:
1. Unbonded Newcastle
2. Unbonded armidale
3. Bonded Newcastle
4. Bonded armidale

Hey guys. I heard that as a current WSU student you might be able to see a WSU med offer around a day early on their website. Is this true? If so, does anyone know whereabouts I need to check to see it? My best current guess is the Enrol section of MyStudentRecords.

There were a few people in 2017 that I remember seeing get their offers a day early as they were current students. I believe they said that the option to enrol appeared under My Enrolment.

But don't stress if it's not there, it's by no means a reliable method. Good luck!

Question about JMP...

I am waitlisted for accomodation at UON, received an email a few weeks ago that the 2nd round housing offers come out tommorrow. If I dont get a housing offer or hopefully I do...can I assume anything about getting an offer on the 11th?

Also are offers sent out all at once on the 11th? or is there a roll out? Does it come through email or through UAC... sorry if this has been answered..also thanks in advance!

I believe that accommodation offers have nothing to do with university offers. Accommodation is done on a first come first serve basis, or possibly also some means testing of your finances, but it has zero link to your uni offer.

And the offers are all done on the one day through UAC.

I am a bit confused about this too since JMP is jointly conducted by Newcastle(UNO) and Armidale(UNE) so wouldn't the offers be joint too?I believe that part of the years in the whole programme have to be in one of these places and then the other so as to equally divide the programme in these 2 campuses and the students get the feel of both these locations,I may be wrong/confused?o_O

I can't message you for some reason (privacy settings?) but you're welcome to message me if you haven't found someone yet - I'm going into second year at WSU this year.

I can't message you either - I just changed my settings, would you be able to try and pm me again please? :)

This is correct, if you already have a student ID you can log onto the enrolments page under 'my student records'. I could see that I had an offer on the Tuesday night (18th) but the offer from UAC didn't come until the Thursday (Dec 20th).

Hey MSO. I applied to UNSW as a rural applicant and also completed IB. I sat my interview in November. Am I eligible for January round 1 offers or will I have to wait until round 2? It says on UAC that the IB offers won’t be out until the second January round but as I’ve already sat my interview and UAC have my results, is it possible that I could receive a January first round offer? Many Thanks

All who interviewed in Nov/Dec are eligible for the January round 1 offers, and also for round 2 offers if you just missed out previously and they have a few spare spots then.

Is anyone else really paranoid about which campus they'll get into if they get an offer? I'm really starting to have second thoughts about whether I actually want to study medicine if its at the armidale campus (JMP). I know i want to study medicine, but being 9 hours from my home town and 6-7-8 hours from sydney (where I've made all my current uni friends) makes it really hard for me to decide on whether i could do it there or not. If i somehow get an offer at UNSW, i think it'll be because I barely scraped through, meaning it'll probably be an offer to study at the P Maq campus, which i feel the same as i do about Armidale.

Also, have many people ever had a first round offer for JMP and got a second round offer at UNSW? or is that out of the question

I know no one can really give me a definitive answer on whether to accept an armidale JMP offer since everyones different, but I just wanted to put this out there so that it'll get off my chest and hopefully off my mind for the next couple days lol. Maybe if i get let into medicine via the Armidale campus i can finally tell my parents that i've applied for medicine in the first place and ask them for advice haha

Would you have been ok with a BMP offer? Did you tick that box when applying? I ask because generally speaking if you rank high enough to get a CSP you will generally get your most preferred location. Although that has exceptions and is not strictly true. All you can do now is rearrange preferences after first round and hope for something.

I am hopeful of a JMP offer for UoN this Friday and have just tried to sign into their online student portal (using my student number and password from my studies in 2014 - which I am sure didn’t work last year when I tried as when I called they said they deactivate unused Accts after a period of time)- and has let me sign in!!

Any other past students hoping for JMP now able to sign in again? Trying not to read to much into but can’t help feel a little more hopeful after 3 years of no offer!

For this reason I ticked the ‘Not wanting an Armidale offer’ box. It was a really hard decision for me - and I knew I was cutting my chances of admission by a third by not even wanting to be considered for Armidale. But I have 2 kids, a mortgage and my support network is here in Newcastle. There would be no point in me accepting a position there when I know what I need to succeed means staying local.

Best of luck to you. I hope you get some very good news on Friday
