Quick Questions Thread #2: 2018-2019

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can help me confirm just how the BMP offer system works for UoN/UNE
I know that for WSU, non bonded offers are given down the list until only bonded places remain. For the JMP, does adding an expression of interest mean any offer you get will definitely be bonded - or does it work like WSU where non bonded offers are given out to higher scoring applicants?

Just wondering whether I should be expecting any JMP offer I might (hopefully) get to be bonded, or whether there's a chance I will just get a regular CSP?
thanks heaps :))

They go down the list of ranked applicants and give each applicant their first offer preference , almost all people will prefer CSP so they keep downing the list until they run out of CSP's. The remaining applicants get BMP. So it is the same process as WSU in that respect.

Expression of interest does not mean you will automatically be given a BMP, that depends on how you ranked. If you did not express interest in BMP, but you were eligible to receive one, it would mean you miss out on a place. That is the only difference with how bonded UNSW/JMP offers work compared to WSU.

Hey guys 3 quick question with regards to JMP

I preferenced newcastle over armidale for extremely important reasons. I’m happy to even get a bonded Newcastle spot over an unbonded armidale spot.

I remember reading somewhere that they do the offers for someone who preferences Newcastle over armidale like this:
1. Unbonded Newcastle
2. Unbonded armidale
3. Bonded Newcastle
4. Bonded armidale

Is this true?

Also can bonded offers be deferred? I read on the forums yesterday that they can’t (or maybe that was for a specific uni only).

Can I defer & apply for other med schools in the following year while studying at UNSW?

Edit: I just sent this in an email to JMP admissions so if you don’t know all the answers/don’t wanna waste time answering this then it’s all good :) they are out for the Christmas/new year period & will get back to me after the 7th of Jan

I am not 100% sure but I would imagine it would be preferenced that way. I think the uni's presume that most people whether an offer is CSP is more important to a candidate than its location, and probably for the sake of simplicity they adopt this method. But think of it like this, if you rank highly enough to get CSP you would most likely be ranked highly enough to get your first location. Although if there are more spots at Armidale than there are BMP spots then some people at Armidale would have to be be CSPs.

You can defer a bonded offer but if you start in the next year you have to follow the new set of guidelines for BMP of a 3 years ROS + a host of other conditions. Edit; not all uni's allow for BMPs to be deferred

You might need to double check JMP allow deferral of BMPs. UAdel do, UTAS don’t, so it seems to vary.

Your understanding of the offer distribution matches mine and is almost impossible to work around, I believe. I am interested in the reply you receive from JMP.

Anyone reckon I could log into this a day earlier or something & find out if I got a spot :D

I put down I was OK for armidale but recent events in my life would probably make that really really difficult on my family. If I knew earlier I’d have not put it on at all : ((

It worked last year for a few of my friends. The ones who could log in, received an offer while the ones who couldn't didn't.
Awesome. First I was refreshing the ASOS website to see if shoes in my size were back in stock. Now I’ll be refreshing the Newcastle page a few times a day too ;) thanks for the reply

Have you messaged the university and notified them of this? It is possible they could amend this, at least worth a try.

Pretty sure (though well off certain) that’s just a UTas thing as I’ve never heard it from any other universities - I can confirm Adelaide and Griffith allow it, at the very least.

Yep - you aren’t bound by anything until you’ve actually signed the DoA, so you should be fine to do this.

For sure will have a go at this. But let’s just hope I get a Newcastle spot so I don’t have to go through thissss.

Also I wrote the formal complaint thing regarding my Unsw application & it will be sent tonight. Will keep u fellas & fellettes updated with any responses I get

You should get onto that ASAP because UAC change of preferences deadline is this Sunday, and after that the offers will be in simulation.

I know everyone is going through the same thing...but I just wanted to say that the waiting is exhausting!!! and killing me!

so no interview at jcu or UNSW...very disappointing... but feel very fortunate to have gotten an interview at JMP...

knowing I was borderline and hearing of friends of mine that were school leavers interviewing with 99+ and great umat scores at UWA and Curtin and not getting offers at either is making me nervous and I am getting confused about the info about offers at different unis

just wanted to clarify... jmp offers come out on jan 11... if I do'nt get an offer on Jan 11, should I assume that i didn't get in and there aren't any second round offers at JMP?

For JMP, once you get the interview, everyone is on equal footing. If you had a UMAT score of 300 or a Umat score of 180 it doesn’t matter - the place offer is 100% dependent on your interview performance

Offers are sent out sometimes even into the 2nd week of the start of the semester so last minute arrangements are sometimes required for people receiving those offers. If you don’t get an offer on the 11th then don’t lose hope :)

As UAC January 1st round offer will be out soon, a quick general question:

If I accepted an offer in the Dec 2nd round and enrolled into the Uni already, if I am offer another course in this coming Round, can I accept the new offer and keep both? I read from the UAC guideline that you need to choose one to keep. But when I call up their hotline, the lady said you can keep as many as you can but you should inform the Uni as soon as you have made the decision so that others could take up the spot.

Thanks

Yes, but you’ll need to un-enrol from the course you choose not to go ahead with prior to the census date (this is usually around the end of week 3 of the semester); otherwise, you will incur a fee for the subjects you’ve enrolled in for that course.

Thanks, so I could 'accept' the new offer on the UAC website in the coming round without affecting my Dec 2nd round 'accepted' offer?

Yes, you can. Please keep in mind though that ‘holding’ multiple offers, particularly to competitive courses, prevents the university from moving on to offering your unwanted place to the next eligible candidate, so while you have until census, we encourage people to let the universities know as soon as possible, if that makes sense?

Hi I posted this in the EAS discussion thread on Wednesday but didn't receive a reply (to be fair the last post before mine was from October 2018) so I thought I'd re-post here. I applied for EAS through UAC and the Universities Equity Scheme through SATAC and received confirmation from UAC that my application was approved but have heard nothing from SATAC. I submitted my documents for the schemes to both UAC and SATAC in mid-December. Does SATAC just not confirm eligibility or did I leave the equity scheme documents too late? I can't find any deadlines for the Universities Equity Scheme on the SATAC website but I'm getting a little worried.
