Alrighty, thanks Crow

With the COVID situation for this year, as people are applying for UES for affected ATAR situation, may we also apply for our UCAT preparation, test-taking and score?

I'm pretty sure UCAT doesn't offer any sort of bonus point scheme. The only thing they have is if you were somehow affected by tech issues or whatnot on the test day, then they add a little * next to your score, but I've heard unis tend to not pay any attention to that anyways :(

Reminder that this thread is purely for discussing UCAT test results. Questions and discussion about UES, UCAT section weighting etc have their own threads set up already.

It is worth an application to JMP and Adelaide, but unfortunately it's unlikely you'll get interviews there. JCU is probably your best chance - have you considered applying there? If you do, I'd strongly recommend getting onto the written application ASAP as it's by far the most important factor in determining if you'll receive an interview. Best of luck :)

With that UCAT they can expect interviews for UQ, JMP, WSU,Adelaide, and Curtin. ATAR is too low for UNSW, Monash, Griffith, Flinders, and UWA.

Yes 4u is Maths C equivalent, so they will get 2 bonus points

Specific Question: My gpa is based off one semester of uni, and on the UNSW website, they have mentioned that the 50/50 rule comes into effect only when you complete 0.75 of a full year of uni. Currently enrolled in uni this semester, and I’m hoping to increase my gpa to 6.7. In that case what would my ATAR equivalent be? Will that be competitive? I’m wondering what do you guys base your predictions off of, and how do you calculate the ATAR equivalent - I called UNSW and they mentioned that UAC are the ones that create the ATAR equivalents, not them. ( I just joined the MSO today haha that’s why I have a tonne of questions, sorry! thanks for the help! :D)

lol I forgot to clarify, I’m interested in knowing what my entry chances are for both unis ( be brutally honest haha) - I’m hoping the fact that I’m a GWS applicant will make up for my lacking UCAT

I’d say you’re in a very good position for a WSU interview but UNSW is highly unlikely. Best of luck :)

You should get a GWS JPM interview, but unlikely for UNSW (based on UCAT, tbh, so your ATAR equivalent question is a little irrelevant to your prospects). Good luck!

how do you calculate the ATAR equivalent

Anecdotally ATAR equivalent = (GPA-converted ATAR + actual ATAR) / 2.

In your case if you have less than 0.75 FTE by end of year UNSW will only use your ATAR 98.95 which would not make last year's threshold. So it is in your interest to make sure you will have 0.75+ FTE for GPA to help. We believe GPA 6.5+ is given 99.50, combined with 98.95 to 99.225, just a touch below last year's 99.25 but hopefully UNSW might drop the threshold a little.

Do you reckon that would be enough combined with an 89th%ile? I doubt it, tbh, but more than happy to be corrected.

It would be very borderline. In the last year of UMAT we know the cutoff combo was equiv to 99.2 + 92%ile, but this meant a 99.0 + 94%ile would have made the combo cutoff. Now that UNSW filters out all below 99.25 it should transalte to a lower UCAT cutoff for those 99.25s+.

Lowest UCAT last year was 2830, equivalent to about 2950 this year and likely combined with a higher than lowest ATAR, so I still very much have my doubts for a 2910, but fingers crossed for the OP!

Expect interviews at WSU and JMP! JCU depends on written application. UNSW is likely out due to your ATAR. Good luck :)

Minor correction, 2830 converted to 89th percentile in 2019, which is equivalent to 2900-2910 in 2020. OP may just have a chance.

Apologies, I thought the numbers shifted a few times last year and was ‘un-shifting’ them (obviously unnecessarily).

ETA: my question remains though, is an interview with two bottom of the (very high to start with) list scores doable, or are they not combined, rather hurdles?

Interviews: WSU yes, JMP maybe but probably not (but worth a shot), UNSW probably not but worth a shot, Adelaide maybe, Curtin and UWA maybe (if you apply), Monash likely no, UQ probably yes. JCU depends on written application, Griffith and Flinders probably not due to ATAR, UTAS likely no. Good luck :)
