just asking on behalf of a friend who doesn't have an account:

He ended up with a 78 percentile for ucat but has a pretty high atar (about 99.3). He is also in WA (non-rural) and was wondering what his chances with getting an interview for Curtin. I'm not really sure about his ucat score breakdown.

Interview from Curtin? Imo not a chance. I know someone with a 99.8 and a 80th that didn't get invited. I suspect theres a hard cap somewhere on percentiles on something but I can't be certain. However with his combo he should be able to get an invite and subsequent offer from UWA without too much of a sweat if he's a local.

Yea, he was worried about UWA because apparently they rank you based on your ucat after you pass their atar requirements or something. So he thought that his ucat might be really low to rank up against the others.

Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: Non-Standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 95.05/ GPA range from 5.63-6.73 pending on how it is calculated

GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: SCATS, EAS for Curtin (kind of confused if I can still apply for this as a non-standard) - tried emailing TISC but have not received any response.
Specific Question: Unsure how GPA is calculated especially for Curtin since they use notional ATAR and they don't specify how they calculate since it looks like they use WAM
Know that it is looking like a no from all unis butcan only hope :/
Anecdotally I can't say I know anyone who got in through the non-standard pathway but I can say this. First off, your combination isn't able to get you a normal invite through the school leaver pathway. Secondly, if I'm not wrong Curtin uses CWA NOT GPA to rank applicants internally, so a 6.73 doesn't mean a lot to them. On top of this, according to this page: https://study.curtin.edu.au/offering/course-ug-bachelor-of-medicine-bachelor-of-surgery--b-mbbs/, your CWA needs to be AT LEAST 80% which doesn't seem to be the case with your GPA (though it's still possible) so it might be that you aren't even eligible to apply.

tl;dr I see this as a slim to none chance if the 80% CWA is a hard cut. You might need to email them to clarify whether that 80% cutoff applies just to first years or all years cumulatively. Best of luck for the rest though!

Tell your mate to not stress. I know people from at least two years above and until my year that got invites all the way to mid 60s. If your ATAR is clear, chances are your UCAT is too. IMO he's in good standing for UWA unless they drastically change things. Tell him to prep for interviews as if he's got one. I told a friend this same advice, and they didn't listen so they were taken off guard with their interview invite, and subsequently got a BMP with a 99.65. If you get one - great! told you so. If not, that's alright but at least you tried.

Unfortunately 95+ for an ATAR estimate makes it impossible to provide you any meaningful advice. If it’s closer to the 95 end, then JCU will be your best bet but even that will be unlikely as a non-rural applicant.

As a rural applicant you're in a fantastic position with those scores. For medicine, you can (very confidently) expect interviews at all universities you're applying to (I am assuming with a WAM of 90+ that your GPA conversion will come out at at least 6.5, but you will need do calculate this yourself). UQ dentistry is looking very promising provided you get the GPA of 6.5+. Amazing scores, well done and good luck :)

JCU is definitely looking like your best chance, so make sure you spend as much time as possible on perfecting your written application. If this year isn't your year, though, then I'd recommend resitting UCAT and taking GAMSAT next year (if eligible) and aiming for both undergraduate entry unis (Griffith could be a good option given they are introducing interviews next year and thus the UCAT/GPA cutoffs are likely to drop) and graduate entry via the GAMSAT pathway once you're eligible. Best of luck and keep at it. Look after yourself please! Your health should always come first.

Unfortunately sherri hasn't done the JCU pre-reqs and has contacted JCU and been told it's too late for this year.

Crow, if Sherri can get all 7s for her second trimester, and bring her GPA up to 6.75, is there any chance for Griffith? Or has it pretty consistently been 6.875?

Yeah there may be a chance - last year was the first time the cutoff rose as high as 6.875 and 6.75 was enough previously. Definitely worth a shot!

For Dent:
CSU (borderline), UADEL Interviews, If you are at UQ you will be borderline for a spot (but you need a gpa of 6.5 if you aren't)
JCU GPA is high enough, but need a good written.

Good luck!!!
