Im really paranoid, cause theres writing on my rubber, like something very silly. Dunno if theyll let me take it in. + It says grey - lead pencil thats medium soft HB. Wth does that mean, ive just got basic HB pencils.

Im wondering if all this is just paranoia.

Take deep breaths Lukybear, all is well...... HB pencil is fine, just remember to fill in the little circles as much as possible as it a computer scanner that reads the MCQ answers. In regard to the rubber, just try to remove the writing, scissors work well. Best of luck tommorrow!

Don't worry about the little stuff.
Tonight is the night to relax.
Get in front of the tv, sleep early.
No more UMAT questions, tomorrow is the real one.
Good luck!!

its best to use a soft HB pencil just because its quicker to colour in the circles..and I know it saves you like 2-3 secs each time...but that is over 5 min of extra thinking time for the exam.

hey i did umat in 2009 but only studied section 3 because i cbf with other sections.....

anyway my percentiles were
0-20
0-20
80
overall 44th i think thats a little high considering other people
who got

45
47
48
and
were awarded a overall percentile of 35
bit weird definitely supports the theory of different sections given different weights

That wasn't exactly ever being debated :p

Usually doing really really well in one section will tend to drag your overall score up.

Wait so you're saying I should go with the least common one?

Nope, just pick any, the chances of getting the right answer are the same no matter what system you use.

Reason is that the probability of choosing the right answer for question 1 is 1/4 and the probability of choosing the correct answer for Q2 is also 1/4 since the correct answer is independent of anything you would have picked before that. Therefore, the probability of picking the correct answer is ALWAYS 1/4 for any given question no matter what order you pick random answers. Picking CCCCCCCCCC is the same as ABDCBDBCDADBCBCADB.

It doesn't work mathematically, gulls, like havox said, but intuitively it makes more sense that way :p

Last minute question (typical):

Are we provided with pencil(s) and a rubber? Or do we have to bring our own? If so anyone know the lead size of the top of their head?

Take your own...the lead size doesn't REALLY matter, the machine will read pretty much any normal pencil.

Take a good rubber though, because I get really paranoid about whether I've rubbed something out properly if I can still see faint dark marks in the bubble and then I spent like 20 seconds trying to make sure I've rubbed it out right.

Do what everyone else said and cut it off or just use a different rubber...

LOL havox. That's why you have spares :p

And that is pretty uhh...what's the word for overly prepared for things that have a really really tiny chance of happening?

paranoid?

I went into my last MCQ exam with 5 pencils, 2 erasers of different types & a pencil sharpener.

Extra pencils in case 1 or 2, or 3 or 4, break, or if i lose one.
The sharpener in case they all break.
The eraser in case i make a mistake, and the 2nd eraser of a different type in case the 1st one doesn't erase things clearly on the test paper.

I leave nothing to chance :p.

Tho, the really funny part was, after all that, i forgot to bring my calculator.

LOL. Now if that's not multiple posting, I don't know what is :p

ALSO They're not different weighting for each section
If you add up your scores from your sections to form your overall score, that's what your overall percentile will be given as.

So if you scored say:
10
10
70
Your overall would be 30

Say another person who got
20
30
40
Their overall is also 30

You will have the same percentiles.

Not really, I've broken so many pacers in the past doing MCQs lol. I also had 2 pens run out of ink during my HSC english paper...

You guys reckon it'll be ok to keep your wallet in your pockets?

Also, does anyone know if there will be secure places to leave bags, etc. at the Sydney Showground Exhibition Hall test area?
