Question/s: should I be expecting interview offers from newcastle? or anywhere else?

I would be expecting interview offers from JMP (Newcastle), WSU, Adelaide, and Curtin. Unlikely but possible would be an interview from Monash.

Question/s: Given that i have virtually no chance of undergraduate entry, what are the best alternative ways into medicine? Thanks in advance

99.85 as an ATAR will get you into Griffith Provisional Medicine interview and UMAT free. As this is a 2 year provisional degree and a 4 year medical degree you essentially have a 6 year medical degree on your hands if you get that 99.85 (or even 99.8 really).

You'll also stand a decent chance at Flinders Provisional Medicine and possibly also at UWA provisional medicine.

This is essentially undergraduate entry with a guaranteed offer of a medical degree and I would take these as your fastest and most straightforward pathway into medicine at this point.

If the UMAT cutoff for UNSW dropped by a couple of points this year it would be possible for you to get an interview there as well, but this is rather unlikely given the recent gradual uptrend in cutoffs.

QUESTION: I know that UNSW is probably (definitely) out of question, but do I hold a strong chance for WSU or Newcastle JMP? If so, how strong would my chance of acceptance be here assuming I performed well in the interview.

JMP will interview you. WSU possibly might depending on their UMAT calculations this year.
UTas is unlikely due to the low S2 score, and UNSW is also unlikely due to your low ATAR.

Given that the JMP weights the interview and PQA as 100% of the entry ranking, if you perform in the top 15-20% of interviewees at the JMP you will get a place.

Just to clarify, we do not actually know the calculation used by WSU to get the cutoffs for interview - the closest we got was this formula but even this did not fit exactly with the data. It may very well be slightly different and I would probably speak with the WSU admissions office for some advice.

Your ATAR of 93.5 will exclude your application to every other university for medicine in Australia, unfortunately.

Thank you.

Are there any other pathways for undergraduate medicine around this ATAR? For example starting a degree at Uni and using 1st semester GPA? What would this GPA have to be minimum?

Thank you.

For undergrad Med, you'd be looking at non-standard universities, so JCU, Bond, UNSW, JMP, and UWS. Curtin would be out because you need to have a whole complete degree. UNSW will keep taking your ATAR into account, regardless of how long ago you did year 12, and this is also the case for Bond if you haven't done more than one year of university. It may also be the case for UWS? JMP and JCU (no UMAT) would be your best bets.

ETA: for JCU, aim for high 6 GPA. JMP is slightly more forgiving, but will require you to sit UMAT again.

There are, however universities won't use a part of a year's GPA, they will only use a full year's GPA.

For undergraduate entry as a non-standard this is dependent on which university you are applying to. For example, as the JMP's cutoff for entry is a 94.3 ATAR, the equivalent GPA for this is only 5.xx or so which is essentially half credits and half distinctions. WSU would need a bit higher than that (around 6-6.5 from memory however someone should probably correct me with some more up to date numbers) and UNSW you would never make the cutoff for with an ATAR of 93.5 as even with a perfect GPA your combination of GPA+ATAR/2 would be too low.

Edit to add: Probably what LMG! said as she has way more experience in the non-standard application department than I do.

As above we don't know the cutoff formula for WSU but I would think that with those scores you probably just miss out on an interview there.

Unfortunately there aren't any other universities who would be considering an application with those UMAT results unless your ATAR was significantly increased from 97. JCU will consider an application if your ATAR was strong and your application form was very good. However, as it stands, you're probably going to need to consider a Plan B for this year at least.

No provisional unis will accept anyone with a tertiary record.

In terms of non-standard applications, this is highly dependent on your GPA (as converted to an Australian GPA). However, of the universities that accept non-standard applications (UNSW/UWS/JMP/UTas), only UNSW would maybe consider your application and that is only if your year 13 marks plus your GPA were almost perfect.

Thank you! I have a 99.95 ATAR (when converting from NCEA) and 7.0 first-year uni GPA (after converting to Australian GPA, only based on first sem lol rip). Is UNSW my only option due to my UMAT result?

Hey my twin
We have the exact same UMAT raw score and percentile and i'm also aiming for UQ Dent as a non-standard xD

I'm rather confused as to your rural status - if you are in Greater Western Sydney, how are you rural?

If you were rural and had those scores then I would be applying to wherever I could that has a rural entry program (with some guidance from the universities' medical faculty admissions offices).

If you were Greater Western Sydney but NOT rural then those scores are not going to get you an interview anywhere unfortunately.

It's not necessarily your only option, but at this point, it's by far your best shot at it.

If you get a 99.90 or 99.95 there is always the USyd provisional entry program.

rural programs need u to have resided in a rural area for at least 5 years in your life (and not currently). I was in a rural part of qld from year 1 -9 and am currently in GWS

Very well - see the advice for the rural background then.

While your scores are well within the range for UQ provisional medicine....

You'll find that on their website that UQ provisional entry is only open to students who are completing year 12 THIS year.

If you are completing year 12 THIS year (i.e. NOT on a gap year as you have stated) then you will qualify for a UQ provisional MD CSP place (in which case, welcome to medicine!)

If you are on a gap year and you completed year 12 LAST year then you will be ineligible for a UQ provisional medicine spot however you will still have a very strong chance applying for Adelaide, Monash, UNSW, Curtin, WSU, JMP, and a reasonable shot at JCU as well.

Questions: Say I end up getting 99 ATAR, is there any chance of receiving a 2nd round offer at UNSW?
