Question/s:
I heard last year's UMAT cut-off for Adelaide was 93 but the year before that was 87? Is it possible the requirement would go back down?
Also what is my likelihood for UQ/CSU/La Trobe?
Given my section 1 mark I've applied for JMP med as a backup. How likely am I to get in and is it possible to transfer from med to dent?
Thanks![]()
Adelaide's Dentistry program has had some serious changes in the cutoffs required because the dental school has now been moved/migrated and the number of dental students that it can now teach is a fair bit less (therefore cutoffs have gone up). I wouldn't expect that they go down again as there hasn't been any substantial re-increase in the size of the new dental school.
That said, I would say your scores are pretty damn close to the scores I would expect for an interview. If you miss out, it'll be close.
I believe UQ dentistry requires OP 1 which is a 99 ATAR, but the 180 UMAT would definitely satisfy that requirement if you got that 99.
You would almost certainly have an interview at CSU for dentistry. LaTrobe doesn't use the UMAT though so resultingly the required ATAR for that would be in the high 99.7's or so.
You'll definitely get a JMP medicine interview but the likelihood of entry is purely based on your performance in the interview and the PQA (so you have pretty much the same chance as anyone else at the interview).
Re: transferring from med to dent: this is no different from transferring from any other course to dentistry. Essentially you will need to be getting a very high GPA in medicine to maintain the marks required to get entry into dentistry as a non-standard (and believe me, this isn't easy at all). If you have zero interest in doing medicine, I would seriously stay away from it as a pathway to doing dentistry.
