[Undergrad] UMAT 2017 Results Discussion

1. As stated before JMP will interview you.
2. Sure, why not. It's actually a pretty cheap test in the big scheme of things. HOWEVER - please read the Common Pitfalls article in my signature before you go down the Med Sci pathway!
3. Yes they will consider it. Some universities (such as WSU) would even offer an interview to people who have an ATAR BELOW the cutoff (I know someone in this predicament) - based on their policy to offer interviews based on UMAT only. (At this point though you wouldn't have the scores for a WSU interview though). Usually if this is the case they would also advise you that you would not be eligible for a place despite the interview so as to save you a trip to the university.

Yep read the common pitfalls page and it was super helpful. Have a question about that but I'll post elsewhere. Thanks though
In regards to the WSU situation.. is there any uni which does the reverse of this - offers first/second round interviews below umat cutoff based on your atar being good?

Overall UMAT Score: 192
Section One: 61
Section Two: 70
Section Three: 61
Overall Percentile Rank: 97
Estimated ATAR/GPA: Probably around high 98 - low 99 (pre SA scaling) - my school doesn't give predicted ATARs to students so this is based on a calculator
Preferred University: Adelaide, Monash, UNSW, and now considering UQ lmao
Course Type: Medicine
Application type: school leaver
State: SA
Rural: no
ATSI: no
GWS: no
Other Bonuses: Would get bonus points in SA for English and Maths but doubt they're used for med...

Question: How much of a chance do I have for an interview at Adelaide, Monash and UNSW (top preference is Monash) and of getting provisional entry into UQ?

Adelaide will 100% give you an interview (first round interviews are based only on UMAT score, not on ATAR; however final rankings are based on all three and even so with a 97 ATAR you'll get an interview with that score).
Monash and UNSW will also likely interview you unless you bomb out on the ATAR.

UQ will give you an unbonded CSP provisional place if you get over 99 but no place at all if you get under 99.

Nope, owing to the fact that UMAT is always out before the current year 12's have their ATARs.

I didn't do amazingly well in S3 (got 70), but what I think helped me the most is learning to eliminate options. After the exam, I felt like I got at least 15 incorrect. But, I did eliminate at least 2 or 3 options, and luck just favored me. I would advise you to watch Daniel Mills UMAT tutoring videos on YouTube to improve on this. Good luck!
Thank You very much for that, I will look into it :)

Rural with those scores says you get an interview everywhere you apply. You probably also qualify for a place in UQ's provisional entry program.

Hi, I got a 61% percentile UMAT 51, 55, 51.
I got an atar of 97 last year and am from a rural area... do I stand a chance of getting an interview.
Bit stressed, thanks

Looking at Monash and Adelaide

Nope, maybe, nope, and yes, respectively. You should probably also throw an application Adelaide's way as well.

Long story short you actually probably do have a shot at least at the JMP - I would contact the individual faculties asking for advice for this, and given your rural status I would also definitely apply at JCU. I have definitely seen rural students get into UNSW and Adelaide with scores lower than yours.

Take a breather - you still have a decent shot at this!

Although I'm applicable for Rural entry everywhere else, UNSW doesn't recognise me as a rural student, so I have to apply as a local student. Do I still have a chance of getting selected for an interview at UNSW?

If you are applying through the non-rural pathway at UNSW and have no other bonuses then unfortunately you'll miss out on an interview unless you make a 99.5 ATAR.

If you're looking to stay in your own state remember that NT actually has a handful of spots in medical school available through Charles Darwin University which you may very well be eligible for.

Question/s: I've got a couple of questions...
1. What are the chances of getting into UQ Bonded Provisional Entry? (No chance right?)
2. Is it possible to start Biomed at UQ next year, sit UMAT, do really well (95%ile+), and get into the graduate Doctor of Medicine course after the Biomed course?

Question: How likely is the interview for JMP? (probably not likely right) and what other uni's are possible with my results (like UQ, Monash, UWS, JC, UTAS, Griffiths not sure which ones just any that could apply)??

1. No chance with that, sorry. Cutoffs are around 18 UMAT points higher.
2. It's possible to start *any* degree at *any* university next year and complete this and get entry to the UQ MD... however if you wanted entry to the UQ MD course you would then need to sit the GAMSAT, not the UMAT. I would read the Common Pitfalls article in my signature (especially the section on biomed/medical science) before you commence Biomed at UQ. There is no inherent advantage to doing a degree at UQ for getting into the UQ MD and no inherent advantage in doing biomed for getting into graduate entry medicine.

Additionally, the UQ MD provisional entry pathway only accepts students who have sat the UMAT and finished year 12 THAT year (i.e. you are not eligible for the provisional entry in future years).

You miss out by about 2 UMAT points on an interview at the JMP.

However, UQ will offer you a provisional place in medicine with those results if you get above 99 (i.e. welcome to medicine!).

Monash, UNSW, Adelaide, and Curtin will interview you with that UMAT/ATAR combo. I'd probably throw an application WSU's way as well but you'd probably miss out on an interview there.

UTas will probably not offer you a place because of the whole Tasmanian School Leaver quota but you could also put an application in just in case.

Flinders won't consider you without an ATAR of 99.8ish.

Curtin and Adelaide will likely interview you though, just.
