This is sadly my second time doing UMAT (last year I got 87% so I did way worse this year!!).
1. Is there any chance of me getting into any med degree anywhere (hoping my atar will pull me through). Also happy for those "guaranteed entry" ones.
2. Is there any point in doing the umat again a 3rd time? Whether as a 2nd gap year, or by starting a uni degree doing med science/science.
3. When applying via uac etc, will unis know/consider my atar first even though it hasn't been announced for yr 12s? Basically, will I be offered an interview even though I've got a pretty poor umat?

Hey don't be sad - you'll get an interview with the JMP with those scores !!

Question/s: How does an interview at UNSW sound? I am also literally applying for everywhere, will I definitely be excluded from any uni?

You'll definitely get an interview at UNSW and at many other schools. You would be excluded from the JMP on the basis of your section 1 score and you'd be excluded from the provisional entry at Flinders, USyd, UWA and Griffith, but that's about it - you'd be getting interviews literally everywhere else as well as an interviewless UQ provisional offer if you make that 99 ATAR. $100 says you get into medicine this year.

1. As stated before JMP will interview you.
2. Sure, why not. It's actually a pretty cheap test in the big scheme of things. HOWEVER - please read the Common Pitfalls article in my signature before you go down the Med Sci pathway!
3. Yes they will consider it. Some universities (such as WSU) would even offer an interview to people who have an ATAR BELOW the cutoff (I know someone in this predicament) - based on their policy to offer interviews based on UMAT only. (At this point though you wouldn't have the scores for a WSU interview though). Usually if this is the case they would also advise you that you would not be eligible for a place despite the interview so as to save you a trip to the university.

Yes for dentistry in quite a few places (CSU and Adelaide at least).
The JMP should offer you an interview if the S1 cutoffs don't go up this year (you're right on the cutoff here) and it's also possible that Adelaide will offer you an interview as well.

Edit: Oops, yes, as LMG! has stated the S3 is too low for an interview at the JMP so no offer there unfortunately. Adelaide however may offer you an interview for medicine if you haven't done any university.

Probably not as doesn't JCU require both English and Chemistry which I am not doing this year.

Before you discount this you should check that you aren't able to then fulfill those requirements using a bridging courses which are done in the summer break before university starts.

Your ATAR is not high enough for LaTrobe. Adelaide's official ATAR cutoff is 90 but I believe that the actual cutoff is a fair bit higher than this owing to their recent migration and downsizing of their dental school, so while I would apply there for dentistry I don't think you'd make that cutoff either.

You might want to check Charles Sturt University as an avenue for dentistry which is closer to your scores but I think you also just miss out on that as well.

S3 <50 rules out JMP, unfortunately.

Hi Mana :)

Why would Tiffany be excluded from UWA?

Question/s: My school won't give me my estimated ATAR so I'm kinda in the dark... what is the ATAR (lowest) that I need to get into medicine at UNSW or Newcastle?

Newcastle hasn't released this year's ATAR cutoff however from memory it's 94.3 and with those scores you will definitely get a JMP interview.

I note that you are rural so you have one seriously strong chance at UNSW... and UWS, and the JMP, and pretty much everywhere other than UTas. Make sure to apply through all the rural pathways although with a good ATAR you're also seriously competitive in the non-rural pathways (however I would NOT apply through non-rural pathways unless you don't qualify for rural ones).

A UMAT of 190 as a rural student is well and truly the top 0.1% of rural applicants, and if you apply everywhere through the rural scheme you're pretty much guaranteed a place in medicine next year.

You might want to check how the SEAS/EAS works - generally these schemes only add points to the ATAR rather than the UMAT which isn't really as much help to you in this situation as a boost to the UMAT score, which is really the thing that is holding you back from receiving interviews at all those universities you listed. Similarly enough the bonus points for subjects have slowly been phased out of pretty much all university medical programs except (I think) UQ.

Isn't the EAS bonus still beneficial though? Since my UMAT (84%ile) is still within the cutoffs but not the best, I feel that the boost to my ATAR could help offset that to get me through to an interview, even if my raw ATAR is quite high (hopefully).

That score would put you in good stead for rural entry to UTAS, too (assuming actual ATAR 95.0+).

Chances at UNSW, WSU?

WSU is hard to predict at this score but I would think more likely yes than no.
UNSW would be dependent on whether they make the 99 ATAR.

Not too sure about this given the whole kerfuffle about UTas before and the fact that this person is not from Tasmania (especially since Tassie doesn't really have a rural school leaver quota given that ALL of Tasmania is rural...) but if you have inside information that suggests otherwise, then it can't hurt.

Nah, we got plenty of info about this category from MSO users last year. And have been told numerous times by admissions that this year is running the same as last year did. These scores are definitely extremely competitive (lowest we know of was ATAR 95.0+, UMAT 55 for 2017 entry), and an offer will rely on a good written application.
