Question/s: What are my chances of getting into UNSW for medicine? I am currently a 2nd year dentistry student, and I know my UMAT is not that great :(

The JMP's cutoff for interview is based on the following modus operandi:
1. All applicants below 50 in any section are removed
2. Applicants are then ranked by their section 1 score
3. The top X people ranked by those scores are given an interview (the cutoffs last year were S1 of 60-61)
4. The interview and PQA (done at the interview) determine the final rank (100% ranking) for place offers.

So unfortunately as your S1 is too low for an interview at the JMP you'll likely miss out on a place there.

Thanks Mana. I appreciate the input.

Question/s: (optional. Please be as specific as possible)
What are my chances at landing an interview (particularly for medicine)

Adelaide and Curtin will give you interviews. Monash potentially as well depending on your final ATAR. Flinders may very well offer you a provisional spot, and Griffith will need you to boost your ATAR just a tiny bit. JCU is obviously heavily dependent on your application.

Dentistry usually has cutoffs around 10-20 UMAT points lower than the medical courses at the same university (other than JCU of course which doesn't need the UMAT).

If you were interested in dentistry I would seriously consider an application at LaTrobe University and Charles Sturt University who are very likely to offer you an interview or place in dentistry with those scores. Griffith dentistry will also offer you at least an interview.

Adelaide may offer you a second round interview if you score in the high 99's (99.8+). Flinders will require again a high 99 (99.8-99.85) for consideration.

That depends highly on what your GPA is in dentistry. If your combined GPA plus ATAR brings your ATAR equivalent to 99.95 then you will likely get an interview from UNSW - otherwise, you're out of luck. That said, you probably chose the right career anyway according to quite a few of our dentists and doctors/medical students here (myself included).

They won't let you do this without an extremely good reason, unfortunately. Here's what UNSW has to say (look at the Medical Students from Other Medical Schools section):
Local applicants | Medicine

Here's WSU's page on transferring (yes what you've described is still transferring) between medical schools:
Transfer Request | Western Sydney University

Finally, here's the JMP's page on transferring between medical schools:
Can I transfer into the JMP from another University degree? / AskUON / The University of Newcastle, Australia

Every single page says they're very difficult to get and need extenuating circumstances that are approved at the level of both Deans of the medical schools involved. You can also see that UNSW specifically rules starting as a freshman out even if you wanted to apply as a usual non-standard, JMP says if you want to start as a freshman it's still considered a transfer, and WSU is a bit vague but they assess where you would be placed even if you managed to get a transfer approved, so I'm assuming this includes starting from year 1 .

See above
Talked to WSU medicine faculty, advised that, they will be treating same as non standard applicant by considering ATAR + 1st Year GPA.

Chances for interview at monash?

If I was to increase my WAM would that help or is it due to my low UMAT?

The UMAT scores in particular will prevent you getting an interview at the JMP or WSU. If you were to increase your WAM enough (by a very substantial amount - enough to increase the ATAR equivalent to 99 or so) then you might get an interview at UNSW.

Chances for interview at monash?

Cutting it close but with SEAS boosting your ATAR a bit and you being a Victorian school leaver getting some further bonus points I would think you would make it for a Monash interview.

Answer to the first question is that JCU would consider you if you got that 99.1 and a strong application; nowhere else is likely to interview you unfortunately.

Before you decide to take a gap year and apply again I would seriously read the link in my signature titled Common Pitfalls to Avoid - especially pitfall #3 as it seems to be relevant to you. I would definitely NOT take a gap year only for the purposes of resitting year 12 and/or the UMAT.

This is sadly my second time doing UMAT (last year I got 87% so I did way worse this year!!).
1. Is there any chance of me getting into any med degree anywhere (hoping my atar will pull me through). Also happy for those "guaranteed entry" ones.
2. Is there any point in doing the umat again a 3rd time? Whether as a 2nd gap year, or by starting a uni degree doing med science/science.
3. When applying via uac etc, will unis know/consider my atar first even though it hasn't been announced for yr 12s? Basically, will I be offered an interview even though I've got a pretty poor umat?
