UMelb UMelb Dentistry: Entry Questions and Discussion

Apparently Melbourne had first round offers on the 14th when they didn't have my results. What are the chances they would still have spots left on the second round offer on the 1st of Feb?
It's best if you contact Umelb directly, but I think you'll get an offer once they have your results because they don't limit the number of spots for this pathway.

When you refer to only 15 people a year get an offer, is this a strict limit?
Lets say I have a 99.95 ATAR but they only have my results in time for second rounds, and they've already sent out 15 offers would I still be eligible for an offer on the 1st of February?
I don't think it's a strict limit, I meant normally only around 15 applicants are eligible (ie: have the required ATAR).

I did some more research. The website states that to even be eligible for this graduate package option it is required of me to be an Australian citizen or have done Australian Year 12 or IB.
Does this mean that even though my ATAR is 99.95 I would not be eligible because I took NCEA in New Zealand?

I don't know any NZ students on this forum applied for that pathway, so it's better if you contact the university directly.

Hello! I was just looking over the UniMelb Medicine forum and saw discussions that there are only 45 FFP places available, so students could probably be eliminated during the MMI stage.

Dentistry doesn't have an MMI, so if I maintain the required grades in my undergrad, will I gain seamless entry into the dental surgery course? Thank you!

Yes, but you also need to prepare 320k to pay. If you are interested in Dentistry I would attend Latrobe or Griffith uni then transfer there.

They may introduce MMI for DDS from 2026 onwards.
"Anyone applying for the 2026 intake onwards, may also be required to perform satisfactorily at a Multi-Mini Interview as a part of the application process. More information about this will be provided closer to the commencement of that intake."
This is from an email sent by the Faculty of MDHS.

Hey I'm a high school student from New Zealand doing A levels. I'm interested in the Dentistry Graduate package that UniMelb offers. However, i'm a bit unsure whether I'm eligible for the package. The website says that only students who studied in Australia or Australian citizens studying in another country are eligible. However, I've sent UniMelb an email and they've replied saying I am eligible which is a bit confusing. I was just wondering if there are any others who were in a similar situation as me or know anyone that's that's facing the same problem? On a side note, A level students are ony eligible for January round 2 intake for 2025, would that have any impact on admissions? Thanks.

There are three different pathways to UMelb Dentistry

1. The 99.9+ Chancellor's for Aus citizens, or non-citizens studying Y12 in Australia
2. The 99.0+ guaranteed pathway but only with full-fee dent after the Bachelor degree
3. Doing a Bach degree at UMelb or anywhere then apply for graduate entry with GAMSAT

I suspect the UMelb reply to you refers to the latter two options only.

Thanks for the response. I'm referring to the "Bachelor of Science + Doctor of Dental Surgery" package on this page which i don't think is in the three options you have listed. Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding something. Thank you.

Ah I see, these packages are news to me.

The requirements look similar to the Chancellor's (without getting the Chancellor's scholarship). Being a NZ applicant you satisfy the criteria for domestic. Though the webpage says studying Y12 in Australia the way it shows the entrance marks implies NZ students are acceptable, being ATAR 99.85+ or NCEA 99 or A-Levels A*A*A*.

But on the wording on the left side, I suggest you write again to UMelb to 100% clarify their reply to you was meant for domestic not international applicant.

Cool :)

Hello all, I'm eligible for and considering the Chancellor's pathway to UniMelb Dentistry. I have several questions regarding this:
1. Does this mean I accept the offer for the Graduate Degree Package B. Biomedicine + DDS ?
2. I heard somewhere that for Chancellor's pathway there is no required WAM/GPA you need to achieve for Undergrad - is this true?

Any other information on Chancellor's pathway, to UoM Dent and UoM Med, would be greatly appreciated!
