UNSW UNSW Medicine: General Entry Questions and Discussion

I just got off the phone with them. They said they sent out 100 offers from 300 interviewees. Basically their explanation was similar to A1's post, along the lines of them not knowing what the cut offs would be before all the interview scores were obtained. For me, my interview 'wasn't superb but was not bad' but it wasn't high enough to get me an offer given my UCAT. 'For those who hit the cut offs for the selection rank and UCAT the reason they did not get an offer was their interview performance'

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but my question is if I apply for UNSW next year will they use my mark from the first degree or my second degree or whichever one is higher? So I currently have one incomplete degree but if I transfer over to another degree, will they consider the mark from the latest degree or whichever one is higher? Also do I have to be a UNSW student to apply for SCATS and can I apply 2 years in a row?

Thanks a lot

Is there chance the cutoffs can change based on how many people reject and the performances of other interstate interviewees?

So happy to hear that - I’m not sure what to expect!! Hoping to get a spot at Forster College but I’m not quite sure how it works! Hopefully I can find some others who got PM and talk to them.

So I called UNSW and asked them for my selection rank and they told me I was placed 116th. Can anyone comment on my chances of getting a second round offer given that?

Second round offers will be (predominantly) for interstate students who haven’t even interviewed yet. Depending on their performance, some first round interviewers may get lucky but it will be minimal I’d think. You’re more likely looking at third round/top ups. Good luck.

thats a good rank! - well done- what was your ucat? gives us an idea of things

ATAR: 99.55
UCAT: 3210

They told me I had an above average interview over the call. Would you say that a third round offer is likely given that selection rank or is it impossible to tell?

I don't know - but it looks great to me - hang in there and maybe call and ask them if you should keep it as your 1st pref - can't hurt! good luck

Does anyone know if I can accept a UNSW offer (up until stage 2 of enrolment) and still decline it after the 14th, provided I get an offer in the QLD round?

You 100% can decline it after 14th Jan (but remember to not only decline but also withdraw your enrolment as well, otherwise you may be accidentally charged the HECS fee).

You can even accept/enrol then do nothing then withdraw before census date (which is around mid-March for UNSW med) and won't incur any penalty. But this is strongly recommended against since it doesn't allow UNSW enough time to offer a top-up to another student.
