UPDATED Dentistry Schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards

Hi guys can someone give a rough estimate of the interstate UCAT cutoffs for dental schools besides UWA.

I'm a WA applicant who's thinking of taking a gap year to resit UCAT and reapply

Did you look through the info in the link I already shared with you?

Hi guys,
I've just done my UCAT and got 3739 with SJ. Looking at an ATAR of 99 (plus 2 adjustment points). I really want to get into UQ dent- what do you think my chances are?

Look in the UQ Dent thread, I think someone mentioned the previous UCAT+SJ cutoffs in there.

Hi guys,
I have just recieved my ucat score (3300 + 601 = 3901 combined). Would I recieve a direct offer to UQ dentistry as a non standard, interstate applicant? (6.7 GPA, and 99+ ATAR, idk if that counts for anything here)

Hi guys, is the UQ dent atar cutoff above 99 or including 99? I have exactly a 99 atar and a total ucat score of around 3800 and am looking to apply, would they accept these scores?

Including 99. And they take adjustments for Specialist Math and/or a LOTE (+2 ATAR for each).

Hi guys,

I'm currently in year 12 and wanting to dentistry, I've pretty much decided to go via the CSU internal transfer pathway. I recently got an early offer for the bachelor of health and medical science. I'm still not entirely sure whether I should accept it or choose another degree to do?

I would suggest picking a course that, to put it politely, has employment opportunities. If don't make it in, and many don't, you'll have another career path to choose from. You can pick any course with CSU and be eligible like teaching, physio, nutrition, business, commerce etc. The difference is that in the unfortunate circumstance that you don't make it into dentistry, you'll at least have a job. Science jobs are few and far between.

To say it frankly, almost every other person in the med sci program (+many in physio and pharm) is aiming to do the same thing you're thinking. It is literally the point of the course with no guarantee of return. And there were fewer people making it in from med sci than I have fingers on one hand.
Check out this thread from mana that sums it all up quite nicely.

Hi, does UWA dent accept non-std students? Thanks in advanced
They do, but it's graduate entry, so you'd have to have finished your current degree first.
Alternatively, if you're on a gap year, you might still be eligible for their assured pathway

Update to CSU dentistry lateral transfer pathway:

Domestic students: Applicants who are current Charles Sturt students

This pathway is only available for current Charles Sturt University students. A minimum of 30 interviews will be made available for Charles Sturt students.

Selection for interview: Eligibility for interview is based on GPA in the year of application. Interviews may be granted to current Charles Sturt students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Charles Sturt course at the time of application
  • Have completed a minimum of 4 standard subjects (32 credit points) at Charles Sturt within the last 2 years and achieved a GPA of 5.5 or better at the time of application. At least 2 of these subjects must be in a health discipline.
  • Demonstrate capacity for full-time study by being enrolled in a minimum of 6 standard subjects (48 credit points or more) in the year of application.

Interviews are no longer guaranteed for CSU students. 50% of places are reserved for rural or Indigenous applicants. Class sizes have increased. 2024 class size 47 ppl. 2025 class size 50 of which 20%+ are international. Roughly 35ish spots for domestics. Rankings for interviews are based on speculation (due to recent changes) of UCAT (for non-csu studetns) and GPA for CSU students. Offer is conditional to achieving 5.5GPA, but realistically GPA requirements will be higher if speculations are correct.

Just a note on terminology: non-standard and graduate entry aren’t the same thing so UWA doesn’t accept non-standard applicants, only school leavers via the undergraduate/provisional entry pathway or those with a completed degree via the graduate entry pathway where you don’t complete the undergrad portion.

Non-standard entry is entry into undergraduate med or dent for those who’ve already commenced or completed a tertiary degree. You start from the start with the high school leavers.
