USyd USyd Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and General Discussion

Hi guys,
What does the assessment day look like for medicine at usyd and what are the skills/criteria being tested?
thank you😊

(But the way they word it means if during the gap year you resit an HSC subject to receive a new ATAR you should be eligible).
I can confirm this. My ATAR was below the 99.6 usyd dent cutoff at the end of Year 12, I took a gap year, resat one HSC subject, atar went up to > 99.6 and USYD Dent interview offer came in 1 hr after receiving my new ATAR at 9am haha. The dean of the dental school then calls people to confirm you received the email. Can I just say the USYD group interview / discussion thing is wackkk. You basically have to stand out so much in a group of people, I find the process so unreliable and wack. You legit can’t accurately give a numerical score to every single interviewee in that thing. I would say they probably note down one or two people who stood out and give them some bonus points. Some people have said the written assessment is what counts not the group discussion, I think this makes sense.

Hi all,

Looking into USYD Med as a possible option, but can't seem to find any accommodation that would accept me... :(
I'm currently 17, so there's already a major issue in that most private student accommodations won't accept U18s, and the fact that uni starts soon so essentially everywhere is fully booked or sold out.

Could anyone advise on what I should do? Or if anyone has any other methods or choices that I could do? Don't want to be stuck living on the side of the road hahaha.

Thank you!!

Hi jsm6, hopefully your accommodation is sorted by now. Did you try checking with Scape? It is where I got mine, I am also U18

Hi mate, I am an intl offer holder for 2022 entry this year who got in with 4A*.
I just double checked the website, the not applicable part(even for Australia citizen) was for 3 Alevels only, and you need a total of 24 points(which 1 A*=6 points so 4A*)

Hope this helps;)
Hey man, also an international here looking to apply. I am wondering if you know how many international students receive the interview invite?

Not sure about assessment day invites HOWEVER total offers made to international applicants is less than 15 (<5 for BA/MD, ~10 for BSc/MD) in any given year.

Hi ,

I am doing Y12 overseas and have two assessable qualifications. One has a UAC rank 99.95 and the other is a bit lower. Does anyone know Usyd (and other med unis) will consider “the best of” when they offer the interview?

Your best secondary Y12 qualification is used provided that you are a school leaver and that the secondary qualification is applicable for the double degree medicine program.

hi, I’m also an international applying for 2024 entry. I assume you’ve met the academic requirements?
anyone else here in the same boat, and have the interview invites been released yet?

Do you guys believe USyd will reinstate interviews for the MD? I'm asking because my GAMSAT is relatively strong for USyd (touch wood) but I would prefer not to interview as I can be ineloquent in a high pressure environment like that. Is it possible they will maintain a no-interview admissions policy for just one more year?

No one knows until it actually happens but there's always the possibility of it happening/not happening.

yo dude also an international, I just had the interview last week but have not heard back from them yet, hbu?

can sme explain why most 99.95s choose usyd? i understand why if they have an interest other than med they want to pursue in the undergrad degree, but most seem to pick sth like anatomy/histology which defeats the whole purpose of expanding your breadth of knowledge as you're going to learn that in med school anyway?? it also seems to be well established in these forums that a shorter degree is beneficial for earlier career progression/financial reasons and uni prestige does not matter.

There can be a few reasons
- They don't have sufficient UCAT to get an interview elsewhere
- They live in Sydney, USyd is closer to home than Griffith / USC
- Risks of being disowned by parents who believe Go8 unis are better ;)

Not sure that most 99.95s do. I know of two MSO members - one got USyd + Adelaide and chose Adelaide, one chose USyd out of USyd + UNSW.

(Someone once tried to convince us three students got UNSW Med then rejected to go USyd *non-provisional*, since they believed UNSW Med is inferior to USyd undergrad + GAMSAT + MD. I think they were fictions).

Hello A1,
I just received an invite from USYD DDMP to attend on the 18th of Jan. I am eligible for EAS Low-Socioeconomic region but was not eligible for MySydney because I did not complete high school here. My question is, since my rank is, supposedly, a 99.75, do I have a lower chance of getting an offer? And is getting second-round interview lowers the chances of getting an offer too?
I would appreciate it if you can direct me to a thread where USYD's interviews are discussed because I couldn't find one.

Thanks!!!
