UTAS UTAS Medicine: General Discussion

Your chances for offers everywhere, including UTAS, are excellent. I'd say 99% but only because I can't give you a guarantee, it's probably more like 99.95!

You need over 60 in S2 to be competitive as a non-rural, interstate school leaver (or non-standard applicant). ATAR is officially a hurdle at 95.0, but in reality, given the small amount of places on offer for interstate school leavers, it ends up being much higher than this by default. Your predicted ATAR is totally fine.

Offers for your group of applicants won't start rolling out until early January.

Does anyone have any information on the BMedRes pathway. I heard it's risky in case you fail something you don't get to do the MBBS?

Do you mean the 'guaranteed entry' pathway via BMedRes or the 'competitive entry' pathway?

The guaranteed entry pathway is less risky, but even with this you still have to maintain a certain GPA to actually make the transition, so it's "guaranteed IF..." rather than "guaranteed regardless". You can't apply for guaranteed entry, it'll be offered to you if you meet the requirements.

The competitive entry pathway is risky at UTAS for all the reasons it's risky everywhere else in the country.

Assuming you are referring to the BMedRes guaranteed MBBS pathway then the requirements for MBBS entry at the end of the BMedRes are:-
1. Credit Average (65%) - this is a bit confusing as credit at UTAS is 60%.... the website clearly says 65%
2. No fails
3. No leaves of absence (ie you can't take a year off once you start the BMedRes)

Getting offer of any "provisional" place is not as good as getting a direct entry place BUT..... it is a whole lot better than not getting an offer of any sort.

If you achieve the required 90 ATAR to be offered a place in the guaranteed scheme you have the academic capability to get 65% or higher. The extra challenge that uni brings is that results will be determined as much by your application and commitment as your aptitude. some say it is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration. This is part of the normal transition to university.

Again, there are two types of BMedRes offers. When asking about them, please clarify what you mean.

You can apply for BMedRes like any other degree at UTAS. Offers to BMedRes are made on the basis of ATAR alone. If you're hoping to move from BMedRes to MBBS at some stage during or after that degree, you sit UMAT in that Med application year.

Alternatively, there's the BMedRes guaranteed entry to MBBS pathway. You can't apply for this. It'll be offered to people who just miss out on an MBBS spot. And you're then subject to the conditions outlined by biom above.

All this info is on the UTAS website. I recommend checking it out.

I think last year earliest was 29th of November but I think that was rural interstate. Some might be a lot later

Anyone else get a conditional offer today? I'm local rural yr 12 leaver, I got a conditional bonded offer this afternoon... not sure how I feel about it

Nope, not all Tassie school leavers are necessarily rural applicants. All of Tassie is considered rural, but you have to have lived here for 5 years consecutively or 10 years cumulatively to be eligible for RAP.

Tassie school leavers (non-RAP successful) based on actual ATAR (so not conditional) offers are scheduled for release on Dec 20th this year (was scheduled for the 19th last year and that's exactly what happened).

Yeah, bonded is legit no biggie. Especially for someone from Tas. Over 1/4 of all places are bonded and they get snapped up. Don't stress about it! Well done :D
