UTAS UTAS Medicine: General Discussion

Well, I think my GPA came out to about 5.8 in a 7 point system... not super but I'm kinda hoping my umat will pull me through. I seem to be one of those cases where I hope that it's all about the umat, and not about the GPA. I guess it makes sense for them to not be super clear with the info, gives them the most wiggle room to find the people who look the best for them
Ah well. Good luck everyone else! I'll let you know if I get anything from them

Ahh, unfortunately one of the things they are clear with is that the GPA hurdle is 6.00. Do you know for sure that yours is 5.8?

UTAS’s wriggle room necessity likely comes from the fact they have huge amounts of declines, particularly for interstate and non-standard applicants who take offers in their home states.

I'm not totally sure, it's a little difficult to tell from my uni's academic record, and I'm kinda hoping to not spend too much time looking into it only to find I didn't meet the grade. I kinda ran with "First class honours should do the trick", and I have an interview for UWS next week. So it's not a sure-fire no.

UWS require 5.60+ if you have a completed degree, so we know you must be above that! Best of luck :)

UTAS will perform important system upgrade on this Saturday, I think interstate offers will be released either on Sunday or Monday 22-02-18 next week.

Good luck for anyone waiting,

Just reading this thread randomly and wanted to say that I was a (edited by mod: school leaver/standard) (from VIC) applicant who got accepted into Med in 2017 and that my UMAT was 88. And I got my offer a week before school started, so hang in there guys, there's still hope!

And there's quite a few interstaters in my year, I'd say 15+

That's incredible! Is there a seperate pathway/quota for non-standard and highschool leavers for interstate?

Sorry but I have no idea at all, I hope this hasn't changed this year for (edited by mod: school leaver) applicants.

And I got my offer via phone call which I thought was a bit non-conventional, so make sure you pick up random phone calls!

Hi teddys, just wondering did you apply via the rural pathway to med or as a non-rural, non standard (uni student) applicant? :)

non rural, non standard. High school leaver, with atar of 97.2 :)
Atar ,97.2, Umat 88, school leaver.

As a school leaver aren't you a standard applicant?

Would you care to share your Umat section scores?

UTAS is very hard to predict. Good luck to everyone.

Your saying non-standard puzzled us a little since last year a Tas rural GPA 7.0 92%ile high S2 was rejected.
The lowest non standard offer we have heard of previously was Umat 96 A1. Those marginally below were not successful.

Still with UTAS.... You never know. Good luck.

The class-list is up to 54/120. I wonder who these 4 newbies are, and whether they've been sitting on offers for a while, or if they're only new. So many things to ponder...! Hopefully we get some serious movement out of UTAS in the next day or so (ETA: previous offers so far have come out mid-late afternoon, so I guess today isn't out of the question either).

I've been wondering... the class-list on MyLO is up to 94/120, so perhaps some non-standard and interstate school leaver offers have already been made, but just not reported to MSO?

And I think UTAS first round offers have to be accepted by today, so everyone that was sitting on their offer has probably started accepting.

I wish they would all just hurry up. I have had enough of all this uncertainty in my life...

I applied through post grad as well so this shit has been going on since september for me :/

I only posted that today, it was 94 this morning. I haven’t checked again since then.
Yes, I was aware you posted that this morning. I just asked for an update to get a better idea of how many spots are left at utas, as someone said today was the last day for first round offers to be accepted. Thanks anyways

There doesn’t necessarily seem to be a definite relationship between people accepting offers and then appearing on the class list. I know of a couple of people with conditional offers that are still waiting on confirmation based on actual ATAR (they have met the requirements but just haven’t received their confirmation yet). They’re not on MyLO yet, so the actual number of people with offers is higher (though I don’t know by how much) than 94*. The 94 is interesting, imo, but not necessarily accurate or all that informative. It’s just another piece of the puzzle.

*But it’s also likely that there are people who’ve been added to the class list who will eventually withdraw due to receiving offers at higher preferenced unis.

ETA: the number is still 94.
