JPM WSU/CSU JPM: Interview Invite Discussion

I saw in the data thread a 810VR / 98%ile 3320 got rejected by WSU.
Dank_Watu then commented a 830VR / 3500 (WSU-formula 860) didn't get an interview either.

That can't be right since a NZ 830VR / 3390 (WSU-formula 842) got a JPM/CSU invite
> 2025 Entry Interview Invites DATA COLLECTION

I don't believe there exist enough interstate > 860 to have taken all the WSU interstate spots. Even if there are, this 860 should have been given a CSU interview ahead of the 842. Any comments anyone?

IK the Nz'er who got the int. He accidently put CSU as his main thing in his prefs instead of WSU and he thinks thats why he got the interview. I'll confirm if the 3500 did end up getting an interview or not

Edit - just confirmed that yes the 3500 did not get an invite

Congrats on all the interviews. I am curious to know did WSU send through an email to say no interview? I am in NSW and have received no email either direction - either yes or no…

Yeah, I got an email confirmation stating I got rejected today

There seems to be 3 sessions each day over 4 days with 32 places per session. I have booked a spot but have not received any email confirmation. Make sure you screenshot your booking confirmation. If anyone has received an email confirmation, can you let me know.
Can I ask if there is a webinar / resource regarding WSU MMI interview details (station timings, number of stations ) .Thanks

Looking at their current year ZOOM guide it appears to be similar to prior years with 2 minutes reading time and 8 minutes to respond. It does not specify how many stations there are. Does anyone else know how many stations there were in prior years?

Thanks and also confirming that there is no pre interview questionnaire required to be submitted

Hey guys, has anyone received the debrief email that wsu said they’d send after the interview? My anxiety keeps telling me my interview didn’t go through or something cause I haven’t gotten the email yet…

A1 Does this confirm CSUs reserved spots are significantly less competitive than outside applications? Interstate 711 and instate 647. Maybe I should recommend CSU to hopefuls.

CSU doesn’t reserve spots as such.
They guantee a minimum of 6 interviews (out of the 120) to current students. However after the interview stage CSU students have no greater advantage to other applicants who aren’t CSU students.

Absolutely, but the non-CSU spots seem to have much higher UCAT cut offs. The advantage here seems to be the lower competition in achieving an interview. It may be that there are not many current CSU students of adequate GPA applying for the course, making the reserved spots, spots reserved to be filled by CSU students, a preferable interview pathway. And of course, UCAT is still considered in the ranking, so *edit: an offer* would seem to be a sign of a good interview.

There would definitely be a difference in ucat cutoffs because the number of current students applying would be significantly less than all of the school leavers applying.
GPA is also an important component because maintaining a high GPA can be difficult.
In regard to offers, all the CSU campuses are rural NSW. As CSU offers 80% of the offers to rural NSW this would mean that current students are also considered in this quota (considering they actually live in the town and have so for 5 years).
Interview is weighted at 75% so that would definitely be the decider in offers. I received a very low ucat score but was able to secure a non-bonded spot - likely because I performed very highly in the interview.
I wouldn’t say it’s easier to get an offer through the CSU pathway because after interview offers we get no further advantage, however it may be more attainable for CSU students to obtain an interview because not as many people apply.

Yeah that was what I wanted to ask from A1, CSU interview spots seem less competitive as a current student.

I guess it because the 6 interview spots are guaranteed, so if only 6 current students apply then those 6 students have to get an interview. Regardless of if the ucat is lower.

I'm just wondering how large of a gap the data shows. It would be interesting to think about the implications for all the low UCAT scorers who may have been fantastic applicants otherwise. A bad test score on one day sets your prospect for half of your options. Seems a bit reductive. But that's a different thread.

Yeah it would be interesting!
I think CSU having this pathway is quite important because the CSU campuses are in rural and regional areas where ucat testing centres aren’t available easily. Where I’m at there was only 1 day available across the whole 2 month testing period. So it definitely allows for people with lower ucat scores to be given a chance to display themselves in the interview.
I honestly hate the idea of the ucat and believe that interviews are a much better display of whether someone will make a good doctor. So i definitely agree with the fact that a bad test day shouldn’t hold so much influence on med acceptance.
It’s not uncommon for universities to have guaranteed spots for interviews for current students, I think because CSU isn’t as popular of a uni it’s more attainable to gain an interview through the pathway as people would rather go to a city for their undergrad then a regional area - meaning there would be less competition

What is the required interstate converted UCAT (out of 900) for WSU? Does it use the formula: "0.6*VR + 0.2(DM+QR)"
We haven't got any info from WSU to confirm. My guess is it's either 0.6*VR + 0.2(DM+QR) or 0.5*VR + 0.25(DM+QR).

Last year cutoff for interstate was around 830, equivalent to a balanced 98%ile unfortunately.
