1. I think if you stay at the GWS address in between your FIFO periods it should be fine to use its postcode. It'd be harsh of WSU to GWS-exclude you on that basis.

2. ATAR/GPA is almost certainly a hurdle. Weighting for offers is 75% interview 25% UCAT according to WSU accreditation report, but we keep hearing different versions from WSU Admissions. See this post > General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

1. I fit the criteria for GWS in the case of fifo. They want me to email/call them next august while filling in the application forms to confirm though.

2. Enigma. They gave me only a vague UCAT and Interview will both be looked at to rank candidates

So I just got screwed by WSU... and I am so disappointed.

Start of the year I enquired what the minimum units of study required for your GPA to be assessed for the Doctor of Medicine, and the admissions told me 4-7 units. This morning they advised me its actually a minimum of 2 units of study and that its not published on the website because not all information is published.


I have a completed undergraduate degree that meets the GPA hurdle and I started and discontinued a Masters by coursework after 3 units. My GPA from the Masters does not meet the requirement. And now I have no shot at getting into the course. If they had sent me the right information at the beginning of the year I could have easily done 2 extra units to override my Masters degree, but this was not the advice given.

Apart from practice, is there any point even doing the interview this year ?

Sorry to hear this upsetting news. I suggest if you haven't done the interview you still do it, not only for practice but who knows what can happen at the offer stage (eg. the 2-unit info is wrong, or they might use best of, or the GPA screening isn't perfect).

So you have documented evidence that WSU staff told you to do this and thus has resulted in you being ineligible? Absolutely you should take this up with the School of Medicine and if that doesn’t work, go through the WSU appeals process. As a last resort go to the Ombudsman. It’s the fault of the University here and you shouldn’t take the blame as a result.

Ok will do that . Thanks so much for the advice. It's definitely a tough pill to swallow and I'm happy to accept it if it was fault on my end . But I feel the uni mislead me so Il Give that a try.

WSU is careful enough to split the study load into four groups:
> General Applicants | MD Application

• 1 semester or more but less than 1 year undergraduate (4-7 units) GPA = 6.4
• 1 year or more but uncompleted undergraduate (8-23 units) GPA = 6.2
• 3 years or more but uncompleted undergraduate (24 units or more) GPA = 5.5
• Completed undergraduate degree GPA = 5.5

yet they didn't bother to include one for less than 1 semester? The excuse that they don't publish all info doesn't wash.

yes I agree, in response to why they didnt publish it on their criteria , admissions told me;

WSU holds the record for the shittiest, most incompetent, and disorganised support staff of any university I've ever had the pleasure to email before. I would launch an official complaint about the false advice they gave you, it may at the very least give the support staff a bit of a wake up call.

According to the ombudsman, the official process for lodging a complaint is

1. Attempt to resolve it through support (which you have done and they gave you a crappy answer)
2. Lodge a formal complaint using their official form (under neath the 'Come to the CRU - Internal Review' tab and i would follow the urgent process considering its not many business days until offers come out) (EDIT: It appears that the link for the contact details is broken: but theres a phone number in this policy document)
3. If the outcome is not satisfactory, you ask for an appeal.
4. And finally, lodge it with the ombudsman

Unfortunately, I dont think there is too much they can do in order to give you entry for the coming year, but if you were on the receiving end of an offer but werent eligble based on the false advice they gave you, im sure they can meet you in the middle somewhere.

Does anyone have any specific information on the placements for CSU's medicine program? I am wondering if the whole 5 year duration of the course will be situated in Orange or will students have placements in Western Sydney areas like the WSU students do. With the UNE/UNo JMP program I have noticed that some students from the Armadale campus spend part of their study in Newcastle for placements. Also, I missed the medicine information night recording that CSU released in the middle of the year - does anyone have the video downloaded or are there any links to it?

Unless you’ve got a GPA from tertiary study that passes the hurdle, then unfortunately you don’t meet the criteria for an offer

On the same boat here, I have contacted JMP and UNSW to see if EAS bonus points will affect the academic threshold (no reply yet). From my understanding, WSU doesn’t take EAS points. However, nothing is certain for our situation.

In another thread you said you were RA2 with 95+ predicted. Iirc WSU's hurdle for rural is 93.5, did your actual drop below this?
