JPM WSU/CSU JPM: WSU General Discussion and Questions

I completely didn't realise. Is this the part on uac where it says to upload optional regional documents? Would it be too late to contact the school to ask if i can subit it now and be considered for second round?

Alright! Thanks.
Also,
As for being a GWS applicant - does this impact my chances of receiving top up offers?
For instance if the offers come from interstate declines, am I not eligible to receive them?

This, I am not sure about. I think WSU have certain quotas for GWS and non-GWS residents, so it depends on who in these pools rejects their offers and which pool they need to fill up i.e. I was a non-GWS student, so I was given an offer to fill the non-GWS pool of students.

Hi, I emailed WSU asking if there were places reserved for GWS applicants, and the answer I got was no - offers are purely based on interview outcome (and UCAT) with no preference for GWS

Okay, thanks!
I will be holding out for hopefully a top up!
For the UCAT component, is it determined based on raw score or their scaled score?

Maybe for offer top-ups, but this is definitely not true for the overall offers. WSU heavily heavily favours GWS students both for interviews and offers, I can personally attest to that there are very few non-rural non-GWS students

Oh ok, thanks for the input! I'll just chuck the response I got from them below;

The School of Medicine will make offers to applicants who perform the best in their interviews. This is regardless if they are GWS applicants or not, which means that after the interviews. There are no 'reserved' spots in the course, specific to GWS applicants.

they say that but there's consistently been around 65 GWS offers given in the past few years - i think it's too consistent to be called a coincidence haha

WSU Admissions is notorious for telling whatever they happen to like to say to you :D

This answer contradicts the info provided by WSU that AMC wrote into the WSU Accreditation report.

I didn’t provide any evidence- they ask about your GWS status on UAC but they don’t ask for any evidence. I believe they may just look at your residential address
Apologies! I assumed they did the same as they do for rural, which requires a stat dec (at least, it did the year I applied). I wonder why they have a legal document for one and nothing for the other? Unless they’ve scrapped the stat dec for rural, too?

How do second round offers for wsu usually come? Is it email or phone or something else?

Via UAC and predominantly to those who interviewed from interstate in the second round.

They’ve definitely got a stat dec for rural! It also asks about your rural status on uac but you’re required to provide evidence. I asked WSU over the phone a while ago about how they confirm GWS status and they told me that they check your previous residential addresses/postcodes from the past 5 years.

ETA: this is what comes up on uac, for rural entry you have to provide supporting documentation [MedStudentsOnline.com.au] WSU/CSU JPM: WSU General Discussion and Questions

Do you guys think that the majority of students applying are not from Western Sydney?
Absolutely! Most unis (WSU no doubt included) have ~4.5k applicants per year from around the country and NZ. Can guarantee you most of them are not from Western Sydney.

ETA: some unis mention their total number of annual applicants. I’ve seen numbers ranging from 2.5k - 4.5k depending on uni but I just did a quick search and can’t find any definitive stats.
