2018 Graduate Category Scores & Offers Thread

TheLopen posted on the other graduate chat, but long story short:
Call up next Thursday-ish to find the actual cutoff for medicine entry.
January 4th is when you'll hear back about wait list, no earlier or later.

What the fuck is this how did 60+ students get GPAs of 8.8 or higher.

Who are these people
what is their secret

Idea:
All of these people with GPAs above 8.8 aren't actually humans. They commit sacrifices on Samhain under the harvest moon. Chickens, goats, anatomy textbooks, all are tossed into the fire. The fires are started with kindling made from the ashes of couches burned before.

Once we can all have what the specific cut offs are do comment those numbers ... It'd be lit to have another "NZ Med and Dent Place Offers" 2019 thread

It will come but unfortunately the way the NZ threads are set up doesn't make it all that easy to collate (editing/updating of previous posts, rather than new posts in a dedicated thread). And now all this chat scattered through the offer threads is going to make it even harder. I'll get it started at some stage today though.

That GPA cutoff is crazy. It seems unlikely that there would be such as massive difference between this year, and more likely something that has changed with the admissions process, meaning there is a decent chance more offers could be released over the coming weeks (although we can't say for certain until the admissions office does). If you are on the waitlist, don't lose all hope just yet. There is still plenty of time and a lot more offers to come out before next year.

Weighted-GPA: 8.38
UMAT: Thresholds met, 56/65/66, (95th %ile)
MAPAS: No
Rural: No
Medicine Offer: ?
Dentistry Offer: ?
Other: Physiotherapy: ?

Just to help out with figuring out the dent cutoff I was offered dent and obviously waitlisted for med :/

Surely all the people getting >8.8 aren’t all doing science or biomed... that is insane if they are!! But I read last year a lot of people getting in through graduate category are from other disciplines hence the major jumps... people are realising after an unsuccessful health sci they need to start from scratch in a new field in order to have a competitive gpa for postgrad.

Do we have to wait until January to find out our place on the waitlist? Or can you do that immediately?
Last year, you had to wait until Jan, it was odd cos they did another round of offers like just before that 4th Jan date and then they told you where you sat on the wait list after the second round of offers had gone out (or the first round of waitlist offers)

Weighted-GPA: 6.73 (Auckland 7.38)
UMAT: Thresholds met, 65,62,57 (93rd %ile)
MAPAS: No
Rural: Yes
Medicine Offer: Waitlist
Dentistry Offer: Offered

Oh that's interesting. What date approx would you say the second round was released? And this is a long shot but how many people do you reckon made it in through the second round?

Depends how many accept and decline the first offer.

Can't really recall when it was, but I remember the gpa going down about 0.2 points for letting people in that 2nd round, so that must be a fair number of people who would be sitting in a 0.2 range

Oof praying to God that my 8.66 is enough to get me accepted in the second round in a month or so then lol

OMG really? Did you apply to Auckland? You have a decent shot there with that GPA.
Crazy isn't it that mine and so many other scores that are significantly higher than previous years cutoffs didn't make it! Yeah, I have applied to Auckland and my GPA for there is higher (8.93) so fingers crossed :)
