2018 Graduate Category Scores & Offers Thread

Crazy isn't it that mine and so many other scores that are significantly higher than previous years cutoffs didn't make it! Yeah, I have applied to Auckland and my GPA for there is higher (8.93) so fingers crossed :)
Good luck. You deserve to get in with 8.93. Hope your interview at UOA went well.

I got waitlisted for dent with a weighted GPA of 7.0. I don't think I have a very chance in getting off the waitlist but I'm happy there's still a chance!

Hey guys just an update:
I got an offer this morning from Auckland (direct entry with Auckland version of weighted GPA 8.48 and 79th%ile UMAT + loved the interview lol).

ALSO just got an email from the Health Sciences people asking for my ID number so they can 'advise further' regarding my place in the Otago waitlist.

Weighted-GPA: 8.28 (Otago), 8.595 (Auckland)
UMAT: 59/65/46 (80th %ile)
MAPAS: No
Rural: No
Medicine Offer: Otago - Waitlist, Auckland - Offer (YOWZA)
Dentistry Offer: offered, declined
Other: N/A

Congrats on the Auckland offer! Any chance you can keep us updated on your Otago application / what the deal is with the health sci office ‘advising further’?

Have you heard back from admissions? I asked about my place but they said they definitely weren't going to confirm waitlist positions until Jan 4th. Maybe I'm just THAT far back on the waitlist that they're saving me from the disappointment lol

They tell everyone that every year. When I rang up they explained that it's because your position on the waitlist changes so much by the time Jan 4th comes around that the way it is at the moment is pretty much meaningless.

Did anyone ask if this years cohort is actually that much stronger compared to last year of if the high first round cutoff has something to do with something else, such as changes to admission process, reserved spots, etc? I am just wondering as I saw that last year somebody commented that they informed him of a much higher calibre of applicants compared to previous years...

In all honesty, the University always says "higher calibre" of students and they only really release the cut offs when emailed. They never really release any details regarding the admissions process or any changes just cut off marks so from the looks of it students really are just getting better grades every year ...

Makes sense. I am just somehow trying to find some reason for hope :D ... Everyone was so surprised with last year's jump. But the jump this year is even more extreme. But then again, every year it goes up and every year everyone is "surprised" by the jump. I mean if it goes up next year by anything similar the Cutoff is 9 and it is just random selection haha
In the end we can really just speculate... I guess I will just hold on to the last bit of hope and tell myself that 7.93 will somehow cut it this year until I know otherwise :)

Has anyone emailed in to ask what they waitlisted down to?

Amen my dude <3

In all honesty, I do hope they did change something with the admissions process but it's not like the University will release any such details. The jump truly is massive and, like many others, I do doubt that many people are above such a gpa cut off. We'll just have to wait and see next year when the waitlist cut offs can be gathered. If it's similar or close to last year, they really might have just changed admissions process ... Til then keep your head up high and good luck as many people dream of having a good gpa such as yourself (e.g. me - a 2nd year hoping that dent cut offs lower for next year)

unspecified and timal sorry I didn't follow up faster - but I got a reply basically saying what my weighted GPA was (which obviously I already knew), what the official postgrad cutoff for direct entry was, and that their offices will be closed until around Jan 3rd/4th so will be updated then. - no new information sorry
